Forward Prospect Statistics as of Mar. 21, 2010

Compiled by Brian Weidler, "Game Time" Prospect Department

St. Louis Game Time PROSPECT SUNDAYS

Forwards header

For the first time in several years, there will not be a single Blues' prospect playing in the NCAA tournament this year.

The selections were announced minutes ago, and neither defending champion Boston University, traditional powers Minnesota and Michigan State, nor the storied Harvard program made the cut. Only forward prospect Jay Barriball is a senior this year, and after missing nearly the entire 2009-10 season to injury, he may opt for a medical redshirt to come back and play a fifth year at Minnesota.

In major junior, the top-seeded Calgary Hitmen are facing possible first-round elimination at the hands of the Moose Jaw Warriors, who took the first two games of their series on Pengrowth Saddledome ice by 4-2 and 4-1 scores. That's the bad news; the good news, at least for Blues' fans, is that the possible early elimination of the Hitmen would free up forwards Ian Schultz (already signed to an entry-level contract) and power-play specialist Tyler Shattock for ATO contracts with Peoria.

Shattock has tallied 60 goals in the last two WHL seasons with Kamloops and Calgary, and 32 of those have come with the man advantage. Adding that kind of threat to a Peoria power play already ranked second in the league (67 of 319, 21.0%) makes the Rivermen even more dangerous with the extra attacker.

Down on the farm in Peoria, while Lars Eller has been making waves with a big late-season surge, 2005 draftee (171st overall) Nick Drazenovic has been quietly getting the job one as well. The Prince George, BC native is 3-3-6 in his last six games, with three "money" goals (a PPG, SHG, and GWG), a plus-2 mark, and five minutes in the sin bin for a fight with Houston's Cody Almond back on Mar. 12.

Drazenovic has already set a career high-water mark in goals with 19, and is three points shy of tying his career-best 42 points, scored in his rookie pro season in 2007-08. His nine power-play goals tie him with Julian Talbot for top spot among Rivermen forwards, and are second only to Jonas Junland's 10 for the team lead.
