Blues Prospects "Trending Up" for the week ending Mar. 21, 2010
Compiled by Brian Weidler, "Game Time" Prospect Department
"Game Time" PROSPECT SUNDAYS.
Some new(er) faces, and one of The Usual Suspects, make up the "Game Time" Fab Five for the week that was.
Receiving honorable mention this week is defenseman Nate Guenin. The 27-year-old veteran is a little long in the tooth for true "prospect" status, but his contributions to Peoria have been nothing short of outstanding since coming over in trade for "Dancin' Stevie" Wagner a couple of months back. In three games for the Rivermen this week, Guenin tallied five assists, ten minutes in penalty time, and a solid plus-2 mark.
See the Game Time Fab Five for this week, after the jump...

Joe Fallon.
What’s up with him? Where do he, Bishop and Allen rank against each other and which of the three have a shot at becoming an actual Blues netminder?
I'll take a stab at this
Allen is clearly our top option going forward, and possibly the best goalie prospect in juniors as of right now (Though don’t take my word on it, haven’t gone into great detail looking through it). Bishop and Fallon are probably near tied for our 2nd best prospect, with maybe a slight edge to Fallon.
We might have a problem getting all 3 of them PT next year, as I’m guessing someone will have to go down to the ECHL, since I don’t think we are confident enough in Fallon or Bishop to be backing up Conklin in the NHL. Or confident enough for Conklin to be our No.1 to begin with. Allen will probably be our No.1 in Peoria though, it’s a matter of who else gets time there, and who gets sent to Alaska to freeze their ass off.
Breaking News: I'm currently in the process of writing "I will not say and/or type "that word" 1,000 times.
I honestly see Bishop being traded...
…and that’s why Fallon was brought in. The organization didn’t have confidence in Toivonen to carry the load, so they went out and got someone who could in order to use a marketable asset like Bishop in an off-season deal.
I would put Fallon ahead of Bishop on the development curve, and on the depth chart, at this point. The PR value of Bishop being a local product can only buy him so many chances, none of which he has taken advantage of to date.
Allen has pretty clearly become the Goalie O’ The Future in the organization.
Also, if Wamsley is to be believed, the Blues still have hopes for Berra, so don’t kick him out of the mix just yet. I could see Allen and Fallon being the tandem in Peoria next year, and Berra being brought over to start in Alaska and play 40+ games.
I don’t think Berra’s had the chance to appear in 40 games over the last two or three seasons in Switzerland, so if he wants to play, this is his chance. He has the talent, and the mental makeup, to be an effective North American goalie, according to Wamsley. It’s all on him now.
…and Alaska’s not that bad. Everything Ive heard about it, from Payne and others who have spent time there, is that they treat the players like kings up there, and the weather isn’t as cold as it is in someplace like Edmonton or Calgary.

I would not mind giving Joe Fallon a look next year if someone goes down.
Especially if he keeps looking like this.
Same goes for just about everyone we traded for this season . . . including Pelletier. They seem to have liked the change of scenery.
Great report as always, B.
St. Louis Game Time . . . I need another beer.
