The Islanders weren't terrible then, but in NHL '93 the defense (w)as so poorly graded in the stats, one was forced to play other teams. I used to play the St. Louis Blues for some good parity.
With Kelly Chase, Garth Butcher, and David Lowry, I could crush and pummel the competition, while scoring with Shanahan, Hull, Janney or my favorite speedster: Nelson Emerson.
My goalie? Cujo.
Loved it, and NHL video games ever since. No matter the trials, tribulations, or just hard realities of the real world, in the games we could forget the wreck on Long Island and play out our frustrations by launching Wayne Gretzky into the next zip code.
An interesting tidbit from today's Five Reasons post on Puck Daddy (which, admittedly, a lot of you have already read), in which Leahy interviews Huffington Post and Hockey Independent writer B.D. Gallof, an Isles fan. Our pal Dominik would love this guy.

A rare breed. This was surreal to read, as I alternated teams on NHLPA 93 (and every year until they added way too many buttons). I could get it done with either team, but the 4th line mostly sat: running Chase out there was just too problematic — they had him as way too slow, so he could hardly catch up to level anyone. But Emerson really was a sneaky video game speedster.
Lighthouse Hockey: What's wrong with lotteries? I've been in lots of lotteries.
