03/04 Road Music: @ Dallas Stars

Reason #237 that Dallas is in decline: on March 1st, they gave Steve Ott a 4-year extension, worth about 3 million a year. That, and signing ATL's oft-injured Lehtonen ...those were the team's priorities???

The Blues playoff drive rolls on tonight in Big D. This is only the second time this year that the Blues have won 4 in a row. A win tonight puts us that much closer to a playoff slot - we are in 12th, just 3 points out from 8th, and Dallas is one of the teams we have to leapfrog to get there (Gonna make it, baby, If we try). Dallas is hanging in there at 10th, but it doesn't look good for them.  Turco just doesn't have it in him to cover for their D anymore (The old get old, And the young get stronger). They are 6-3-1 in the last 10 games, but are coming off a 5-1 shellacking at the hands of LA. Inexplicably, Dallas did not address these issues at the trade deadline (Your ballroom days are over, baby, Night is drawing near).

Five to One / The Doors

I don't know the odds that we'll make the playoff cut this year, but this is an opportunity to help increase our chances (May take a week, And it may take longer). This is a team that is certainly beatable, and a goaltender that is usually good for at least one puckhandling gaffe per game. If we play our game for the full 60 minutes, this should be ours (Gonna win, yeah We're takin' over). Also, I hope to see what the new kid's got.

This is also your pregame pre-party. Meet here and catch up on deadline day happenings (trust me, you didn't miss much), swap twitter feeds (I'm now on Twitter, @CrossCheckRaise), and get ready for some Ott-pounding. With Cam suspended, I hope we can dress D.J. King tonight (No one here gets out alive). I can't figure out which one of these best describes that asshole:

Puck drops at 7:30 tonight, with the GDT dropping shortly beforehand. Be sure to check your Center Ice free preview for game coverage, should you be outside of the FoxSports Midwest viewing area.

Until then,

I wonder if the new guy

D’Ag will play. If so, he may be out to impress and the guys will tell him to target Ott.

On another note

I never know any of these songs.
I guess I’m not a music geek. Actually I was never into rock. More of a country and pop gal.
Work on that Tim

I assume you guys knew that the link I use each time is where you can hear the song. I actually hope that at least some of these are new to y’all. With one exception, I own all of the music that I’ve used over this season.

They eat them.

That’s about it – although the French are often refered to as ‘frogs.’

Speaking of which, since we now have a 2nd French-Canadian on the team, does that mean we have to stop calling David Perron “Frenchie?” ’Cause the uninitiated might get confused.

I know it's time for hockey because I've started singing "Don't Stop Believing" with the words "...born and raised in FUCK DETRIOT!!!"

why are they called frogs? is it the way they look or something?

Here are six such theories from the web page “Archived French Frog
Stories”:
(1) Many French people enjoy eating frog legs.
(2) Clovis, an early Frankish king, adopted frogs as part of his
emblem.
(3) France’s national emblem, the Fleur de Lys, resembles a frog.
(4) England’s Queen Elizabeth I had a French suitor whom she
affectionately called her “little frog.”"
(5) The lands around Paris were swampy, so the peasants who dwelled
there were called “frogs” by the upper classes.
(6) At one time, French soldiers wore camouflaged uniforms and
resembled frogs.

Or the favorite one I found while searching. “Because they live across the pond.”

i've heard

from a canadian hockey fan that he called them frogs cos they laugh like frogs. i thought he was joking. nope.

ummm…. i’ll thinking the “laugh like frogs” is kinda far fetched but…

so’ nuff

Frog French The French are said to laugh like frogs. When they laugh, their adam’s apples bulge out of their necks like frogs. Also perhaps from the French delicacy of frog-legs. Another possible derivation is the Fleur-de-Lys displayed on the French king’s banner in the Middle Ages, which, to the English enemy, looked like squatting frogs. UK origins.

Excellent music choice, sir.

I’ve been a fan of The Doors for as long as I can really remember listening to music.

Maybe if Ott plays, he can get his face pounded to a bloody pulp by someone.

Stop 3

Im thinking daggers gonna show up big tonight. To comment on the rest of the trades that never got made id just like to say this. We don’t know what was being offered for Kariya/Boyes. Maybe management decided that even if we are going to lose them anyway, not having us get ripped off and saving face was better than what was being offered. Or maybe no one wanted to give value for Kariya and the ones in charge decided making the playoff push this year was worth more than 3rd and 4th rounders. Its not like we NEED a fist full of 3rd round picks considering who our prospects are anyway, maybe this is JD saying we aren’t going to trade our future for this year and were not going to trade this year for the future.

Lets go blues.
