Saturday Links: Excited to hear Tom Calhoun bellow out Halak's name over the PA edition
The lion's share of the analysis has been done, but I'll pass along any other stuff I find concerning breakdowns of the Halak deal.
Blues News:
- Lars hopes to make an impact with the Habs.
- Jeff Gordon, alleged "Hockey Guy," states the obvious: In acquiring a long-term netminder, the Blues gave up some scoring potential that will need to be replaced.
- Since he's the agent for Perron, Polak, and the newly acquired Halak, it might be worth keeping an eye on Allan Walsh's twitter account.
NHL News:
- Puck Daddy has many videos of the recently retired Rob Blake giving various people some what for throughout his career. One of 'em is Tomas Holmstrom getting his shit ruined!
- Coming soon: A play based on the life and times of Theo Fleury. His over the top goal celebration with Calgary is going to be damn hard to re-create.
- The owners of the Thrashers don't plan to sell. Penny for your thoughts, Hildy?
- The blindsite hit rule has been finalized.
- Paul Henderson, of '72 Summit Series fame, may have his jersey return to his native Canada if a company in BC has anything to do with it.
Other Stuff:
- Holy shit holy shit Spectr found a working lightsaber!
- A guide to the clowns behind laptops at the coffee shop.
Video:
File this under the "So stupid it's funny" file.
Die Hard kept me entertained on TNT while I put together these links. Yippie ki yay, Game Timers mother fuckers. Since it was censored last night, I'll make up for it now.
That's all for now. See you Sunday.

I *wish* Atlanta Spirit'd sell the whole kit and caboodle.
They lost $20 million on the Hawks and $30 million on the Thrashers last year mostly due to massive mismanagement. Yes, the Hawks blew it in the playoffs biiig time, but they had a solid season, and no one’d come to the games. The Thrashers were much improved this year and had marketable players, and no one came except for the first and last games, and those 2 games when Pittsburgh were here.
They suck when it comes to payroll – Dudley’s going to have a hell of a time getting the flexibility to spend that he had in Tampa Bay and Florida (and to a lesser degree, Chicago). He wants a top 6 guy during the free agent frenzy? Good luck in getting the Spirit to authorize any money for them. The only player they’ve ever said “throw money at him!” was Kovalchuk, and that was because they felt he was their only marketable asset. No, he was just the only one that they ever bothered to market.
We need someone in here to run the team(s) correctly. We have owners who couldn’t even find a marketing department that was smart enough to plaster Evander Kane’s mug EVERYWHERE around the city (they had like 7 billboards in the metro area – cute, because the metro area’s freaking huge). Bettman mentioned the Spirit signing a no movement clause for the franchise for either 10 or 15 years – get someone who can run the franchise, fix stuff, and keep it here.
Reporter: There`s a "stamp out the Beatles movement" underway in Detroit. What are you going to do about it?
Paul McCartney: We`re going to start a campaign to stamp out Detroit.
Starting in goal, his first game as a St. Louis Blue, number 41

Halllll-aaaaaaaak
Someone needs to knock me out cold until October.
I agree.....
this all feels like an akward dream……
Im gonna have trouble with it till I see him in the ’Note…….
Fuck July August and September…..I FUCKING WANT OCTOBER NOW!!!!!
I still maintain Vladimir Konstantinov got what he deserved...If you can't handle that then kiss my ass......
"I've got a bad feeling about this..."
If the Blues actually
get a decent ad company you’d see him much sooner
this of course is assuming we sign him. 11 days left.
I would guess he’ll be seen in a Blues campaign pretty quick to try and entice a few more season ticket holders

According to Bernie Miklasz, the Blues sold 425 new season tickets just in response to the trade. I can’t imagine what that number would be if they had an ad campaign on it — or if they acquired Kovalchuk, for that matter.
I will buy a season ticket if they sign Kovalchuk
I can’t afford one, but whatever. I’ll find a way.
I stole this from parts unknown

It appears he sort of tanked on the penalty kill in Montreal. Mont had the 11th overall PK in the “Defense?lol East” and from what I can find his top penalty killers were Gill/Gorges for D and Plekanic/Pyatt, Gomez/Gionata for forwards. Those don’t exactly scream top of the line defenders to me.
Know who has 2 thumbs and now plays for the best penalty kill in the NHL?

He raged at the world, at his family, at his life. But mostly he just raged.
Just because Jay McClement is the best defensive forward in the NHL doesn't mean he should win the Selke.
Works for me!
St. Louis Game Time . . . I need another beer.

Laughed at Andrew Raycroft having better stats than Marc-Andre Fleury
The only thing the Blues are missing is a reliable scorer on the top-line left wing, which they have about $10 million in cap space (after the rest of the roster is signed) to spend on. Add that, improve the young players further this season, pump in the defensive prospects next season and the Blues have a rebuilt team going.
Can’t wait for July 1st.
Left Wing...reliable scorer...top-line...$10 million...
I can’t imagine who you’d be talking about.

Maybe this is old news
But there’s a couple other interesting notes in the Eller article:
- 2-way offers sent to Cam and King (why are we offering to both, again? Please, there’s no reason to pay 2 fighters)
- D’Agostino resigned at 550k / 1yr
- Hirsch hired as goalie coach (not mentioned in the Post article, but he was previously one of two goalie coaches in Toronto)
I guess giving them both 2-way deals provides some room for error.
Whoever isn’t getting time could be sent to Peoria.
And I suppose I can live with D’Ags at 550 for a year.

Every time I watch that first video . . .
I’m looking for context.
Yet, I’m laughing.

Garbage day!
A buddy of mine told me to look it up on the YouTubes over a game of Call of Duty.
I didn’t get it, but I laughed my ass off regardless.
Not a phrase I’d expect to ever here at that volume.

Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky was in a production of The King and I? Well anyway, before the show, Brasky chloroforms the entire cast, and slowly eats them in front of the audience for two hours. The production got pretty good reviews.
