Thursday links: Silent Jay deserved more than two votes edition
Glad that Jay got some Selke love, but he deserved more. Next year, Jay. Next year.
Blues news

- Silent Jay McClement garnered some Selke love, picking up two first-place votes. [Pro Hockey Talk]

- It's so hard, to say good bye to yesterday. [Fear The Fin]
- The Kings seem to be happy with the way things are going. LA is bring back the head coach and GM for two more years. [TSN]
- Dustin Byfuglien is the centerpiece of a massive salary cap dump. Some expensive and crappy Hawks are going to Atlanta in exchange for Marty Reasoner and some picks and prospects. For a big deal, it's kind of underwhelming. [TSN]
- Speaking of the Thrashers, Craig Ramsay has been tabbed to lead the team behind the bench. [TSN]

Decisions, Decisions...
DJ has been out with injuries for so long I wonder if they’ll go with Janssen based on the notions that Janssen could suit up regularly for the past two seasons and that he’s a local product. Will they even look at King’s stats when he’s helathy and compare it to Janssen’s not-so-hot abilities?

Why does everyone despise Cam Janssen so much?
I mean, really… it’s not like D.J. King is Mario Lemieux by comparison. Neither is anything to write home about as a hockey player; DJ is bigger and can punch through an aircraft carrier, but that does the Blues no good if he’s hurt all the damn time. At least Janssen stays healthy, and always answers the bell.

gotta go with this ^^^^
but I still have the feeling that Janssen could be more if given a semi regular shift.
He is consistently the fastest and scores high on the training camp drills.
I just think he should be given a better shot at getting time.
Maybe he will with Payne, who knows. Maybe Payne also won’t get past the ‘role’

I would put Janssen on our 4th line because if Janssen is on our 4th line then no other team would want to play any of their good players against our 4th line, namely Cam “I don’t know what charging is” Janssen.

I could seriously watch that all day.
As well as the intermission interview with Cam after that. Just… wonderful.

I don't think it's a matter of despising him.
He just never seems to be in a situation where he can get a goal or an assist during the games. I’d be happy to keep him on the Blues simply because he doesn’t back down from an opportunity to fight. The facts that he’s a local and stays healthy for longer stretches ought to help even more if it comes down to a Cam vs. DJ decision.
I think the reason why everyone seems down on Can Janssen is because he’s a local, so they’ve got some big expectations for him like fans have for all the St. Louis teams. If the decision was up to me, I’d go with Janssen because he stays healthier. I don’t expect him to be a Sidney Crosby or a Patrick Kane or a David Perron, but man, somebody send the guy a puck every so often.
If I sounded like I wanted Cam gone from the team because I hate guy or some such, that wasn’t my intent at all. I saw more of him this year than I did of DJ King, and I enjoyed what I saw.

Janssen Plays well
Hes not a slug he actually has had a few chances to score even when we are just grinder lining him. I remember 2 instances of him putting a shot off the metal and once where he fed a really good pass to Boyes where he completely shanked a wide open 1 timer. He can play, does his job, is a local product, helps his team a bit for almost no money. I gotta say I really like having him on the team.
He raged at the world, at his family, at his life. But mostly he just raged.
Just because Jay McClement is the best defensive forward in the NHL doesn't mean he should win the Selke.
I know what you mean.
I’d like to see him get the puck some more as well. He should also have a truck horn or something to let his target know they’re going to get hit.

I still don't get the "fastest" part
I mean, he never seems that fast on the ice. Maybe because he’s usually slamming into things (or trying to).
In JR's article
about the Blues off ice training this summer they are doing lots of track.
“If you’re the fastest off the ice, you’ll be the fastest on the ice,” Ayotte said. “(Perron) was the fastest skater this year and he’s the fastest right now on the track. (Janssen) is one of the fast guys. The correlation is pretty close.”
Ayotte is the strength and conditioning coach.

I know he said it
I just don’t see it in games.

Like, um, Dustin Byfuglien. We really need to save Atlanta area kids from that.
I like the trade b/c it demonstrates that the new GM here has a pulse, which is always nice. It also makes us a little bigger, a little meaner, and a little more able to get our asses kicked by Gary Roberts – always nice. I’m cool with Brent Sopel – he seems like a nice enough guy – but it is going to take me a LONG time to get used to seeing Buff and Eager on the ice in a Thrashers uniform. I still heckled Cheli when he was down here… this is going to be really tough. Can’t stand Buff.
That being said, I liked Marty Reasoner, and I’m pissed off that Waddell signed Todd White for so much freaking money. If it weren’t for that, Marty’d be down here and The Todd’d be in Chicago. Reasoner was a good team guy and was liked & respected here. I don’t like him wearing that Blackhawk next season.
