John Davidson At The 2010 NHL Draft
You have to hand it to the NHL when it comes to embracing new media, especially bloggers.
SB Nation, our network that we belong to that has a blog for every damn team in the NHL, has 14 people covering the NHL draft. That's amazing. First of all, everyone is paying their own way. And second, they actually like us here at Game Time and share stuff. You saw a photo down below taken by Jim at Blueshirt Banter. That was nice and unexpected.
Then we got an email from Tyler Bleszinski, the guy who started the entire SBN family of sports blogs. He's a hockey guy at heart (Devils, which we'll give a pass to...this time -- we still hate the late Judge Houston, sir) but started the Oakland blog Athletics Nation. Well Papa Blez as he's known around the Internets had a Flip camera and got about three feet away from John Davidson while he was talking to reporters on the draft floor.
What did the Blues see in Jaden Schwartz? Why did they make the trade to draft Vladimir Tarasenko? Hear it from the president of the Blues himself, straight from the floor of the 2010 NHL Draft in L.A.

Couple thoughts
1. They think Schwartz will grow a little more. Hope so.
2. JD does not want to talk about the transfer/contract issues in Russia with Tarasenko.
3. The organization recognized the shallowness of forward prospects in the organization.
4. They weren’t going defenseman.
Awesome stuff.

6. his description of the top 2 (Hall and Seguin) and "the goaltender" (campbell) and then it being very deep
makes me think they had campbell VERY highly rated, maybe even right behind those 2

I had the opposite impression...
… that maybe they had the ’tender position as so shallow, it was Campbell and a bunch of nothing.
If that’s true, then we may not see the Blues pick any goalies tomorrow.

At first I thought the same thing, but
he didn’t mention any d men, he specifically mentioned taylor, tyler, and campbell.

Taylor and Tyler got 80-90% of the predraft buzz...
… and Campbell got most of the rest. If you only follow headlines, you’d have been hard-pressed to name a fourth prospect in this draft.
I think fowler, gudbranson, and gormley
got a ton of coverage in the run-up, that’s why it was such a big deal that 2 of them fell

and to be honest
i don’t think it’s a stretch to have campbell projected that high, I think he is just as good of a goalie prospect as carey price was, if not better

It was great.
This was the first draft I’ve ever watched (or have even been excited about). Thanks for the GDT and all of the laughs that came with it.
Have a good night, everyone.
I was just doin' a little shit talkin', BL
Tonight was fantastic around here, hardly even cycled through my normal hockey site rotation. (hehe… rotation) You guys always step up fantasticly (better than “professional” or “douchebag” sites) & you all gain nothin’ but pride in workmanship, which I’m pretty sure is almost extinct in this country.
