No I'm not talking about when I whizz, I'm talking about running into Duck fans when I rock my Blues gear out here in SoCal.
I bumped into another one at the store tonight, nice chap with his boy and wife. Naturally Duck fan wants to talk hockey which is kewl by me but the conversation always ends up with them reveling about their Stanley Cup memories.
"Oh and I had season tickets and was in the lower section for game 7" it started tonight.
Even the kid, who was fresh out of crapping diapers, chimes in about how the Ducks are the shit for winning the holy grail.
Then there is that pregnant pause where they decide whether to chance asking, "So, when are the Blues gonna win a cup?" This is about when I catch myself reaching for a stalk of celery to beat them about the head with.
For fucks sake the Ducks are a team with a mascot that almost immolated his own goofy azz during their first game introductions. This is a team that had barely been in the league for over one decade while the Blues plod on into their 5th in the NHL. The Ducks didn't even have a retired number up in the rafters for gads sake when they won the cup. WTF? Where's the morality? It's freaking sacrilege to let a team that young and lacking any history win a Stanley Cup.
I've always sort of liked the Ducks, even with the baggage they carried around of being part of Disney and the ridiculous logo and name. It just pains me to know the Blues have come so close and yet are still on the outside looking in. We have no cup memories to share, no epic tales of drunken parties after the Cup parade.
How can I make it stop?
