Sunday links: On the seventh day, I need rest edition
Hello, friends. It's me again. This links gig is wearing me out. (Not really)
Blues news
- Some really intelligent guy over at SBN St. Louis wrote a really awesome column about the Blues. (I'm a whore.) [SBNSTL]
-
Puck Daddy says the Blues need a top-9 forward. I say a top-3, but the point is, the Blues shouldn't be done this offseason. [Puck Daddy]
Hockey news
- With the World Cup final today, here's a story about a hockey fan going to South Africa. [Nucks Misconduct]
- Patrick Lalime, who you may remember as one of the many goalies to fail in St. Louis, has signed to be a backup in Buffalo. [ESPN]
- Jack Johnson is trying to get the degree. Dude, it's not worth it. It's just a really, really expensive piece of paper. Oh wait, you're rich. Carry on. [Ann Arbor.com]
- The Predators gave a good player the captains "C" to help entice him to stay. That always works. [ESPN]
- I discovered why there was no hockey news on Saturday: The hockey world was at the Mike Fisher-Carrie Underwood wedding. [TSN]
- Wings fans wonder what if Mike Modano DOESN'T come to Detroit. Look, he's old and not very good anymore. He's like Keith Tkachuk, had Walt not retired. [Winging it in Motown]
Other links
- This food stand has to be set up next to a cardiologists office. [Comedy.com]
- I may be a little tired, but this picture made me laugh pretty hard. [Buzzfeed]
- Mel Gibson is pretty much a full-blown racist asshole. To defend himself, he's taken to twitter. (Note: Not really him.) [Twitter]
Videos
After seeing this video, I'm crossing Australia off my list of places I'd like to visit. (Thanks spectr17)
Chris Gift wants everyone to know the Danny Tanner is not gay. Language not safe for work, but no one works on Sunday.
Another day, another links post done. I should be back on the Monday shift, although Poor College Student might take over. Who really knows, man. Who really knows.

BOB SAGET!
After 5 No-Dozes I feel great.. only except that i can hear my ears.. and I believe that toenails are the funniest thing I have ever seen.

Bob Saget really needs to change his name.
He should become Bob Sauget. He could leverage synergy with the town or something. I think it means he could help them get a new electrical grid or something.

Winging It In Motown sure does like veterans
Not sure that I’d call it the “Mike Modano Sweepstakes.” More of a silent auction, really.

The only team not embarrassed enough to keep silent on their bid is Detroit.

SB Nation Atlanta - home of the Fairest and Weatheriest fans on the net.
Reporter: There`s a "stamp out the Beatles movement" underway in Detroit. What are you going to do about it?
Paul McCartney: We`re going to start a campaign to stamp out Detroit.
I was gonna make snarky comments about the Brad WInchester sweepstakes this summer, then it backfired and I didnt have the heart.
He raged at the world, at his family, at his life. But mostly he just raged.
Just because Jay McClement is the best defensive forward in the NHL doesn't mean he should win the Selke.
I've been out of town
in an internetless place.
Fill me in on what I’ve missed.
Who signed, who didn’t and did someone blow up Winchester’s stupid contract?
Kovy sign anywhere, did we ink Halak, Weaver (pretty please)…….

Not a ton happened
Halak signed for 4 yrs, pretty reasonable contract (3.75M cap hit)
Janssen signed for 1 yr, Winchester, think that’s it for recent Blues signings
Kovy still not signed, Kings claiming they’re done trying but who knows, Devils I think still in it
Nobody wanted to pay Nabby what he wanted so he bailed to KHL
And Bob Probert died.
I know it's time for hockey because I've started singing "Don't Stop Believing" with the words "...born and raised in FUCK DETRIOT!!!"
…and Cola signed. I liked that.
Complete non sequitur, but I would like to see Guerin mentor the baby BLUES.
He wants to play somewhere, has something to offer and could come at a reasonable price.
Any other thoughts on this.
I don't think anyone will sign Guerin, except maybe Pittsburgh.
It wouldn’t surprise me to see him keep in shape and look for an opportunity to be a midseason injury/veteran fill-in on a contending team. The Pens may re-sign him if their other targets (Kariya?) don’t sign cheaply enough.

…when you get to enjoy those internetless places?

Thanks guys
glad Janssen was signed now I hope they let him get some ice time.
Halak signing is better than I thought it might be money wise.
Kovy being unrealistic or a sort of unofficial collusion going on?
I heard Probert died, right before I left Tues. I guess that hard life of drugs finally caught up with him even if in a roundabout way. I had read that his Dad died at age 41 of a heart attack so it was definitely in the family history.

Dunno if it's collusion for a couple of seemingly smart guys to say
“We can’t win with a 9M or 10M salary cap hit for a guy who doesn’t play defense”
Not afraid to nitpick
I'm certain there's no actual collusion going on.
Nobody would ever be stupid enough to break league rules and then leave a paper trail. (That reminds me, Jack Quinn really needs a special shout in the next F-You Friday.)
But have you noticed that both teams have had details “leak” into the media? Nothing illegal about that, and the publicly-reported information has almost certainly slowed the pace of negotiations. Kovalchuk’s agent has tried to plant some “information” of his own, but it hasn’t had the desired effect.
I think the only real question now is whether Kovy inks a super-long-term deal with one of those two clubs, or whether he decides to take a one-year deal somewhere else and try all this free-agent stuff again in 2011.
