Who's the best hockey guy in the St. Louis media?
You know, aside from us, of course.
There has been plenty of discussion around these parts about which media guys are not respected (Andy Strickland, do not look to the right of the screen), but we thought, "What better way to kill some non-hockey summer days than by having a winner-take-all contest of all the mainstream media guys who cover the Blues?"
And what better way to do than to set up a March Madness-esque bracket of everyone and then let you all vote them off one by one until all have been eliminated except for our champion? Beginning in the next few days we will post the bracket of 32 writers, broadcasters and other assorted hockey journos who cover the Blues in some way or fashion. Obviously the more hockey-focused they are, the higher their seedings will be (expect that Jeremy Rutherford and Norm sanders will find themselves No. 1 seeds in their particular brackets).
We have compiled a list of the first 30 guys who will be in the bracket after the jump, but just like the NCAA, we're going to let a couple guys "play their way in." use the attached poll to vote for the guy you think is most deserving to be in the bracket - the top two guys will win berths.
Media Madness players:
John Kelly
Darren Pang
Bernie Federko
Chris Kerber
Kelly Chase
Pat Paris
Jim Hayes
Kevin Wheeler
Scott Warman
Tom Ackerman
Tom Casey
Rick Zombo
Tony Twist
Jeremy Rutherford
Andy Strickland
Dan O'Neill
Jeff Gordon
Bernie Miklasz
Norm Sanders
George Csolak
Doug Vaughn
Steve Savard
Rene Knott
Martin Kilcoyne
Frank Cusamano
Angellllllla Sharpe
John Hadley
Mike Claiborne
Tim McKernan
Kevin Slaten
Feel free to let us know if we missed someone or to start lobbying for your favorites now. The vote will close on saturday and the bracket will be released shortly thereafter.

As the one half of the links team I say
Who the hell are half these people?

Bradley Leigh Lee will likely be writing most of the head-to-head capsules.
he can explain some of the lesser-known (first round fodder) guys.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!
Sorry, saw John Kelly’s name up there and thought I’d throw this line out there at a less-than-appropriate time.

I gotta go with Karraker......
Long ago…..before the strike…..I was a Black Coat at the DrinkScotch….You all know who they are……
Blue Coats are the ticket takers and the Black Coats were theguys who threw you out if you got unruly….
Well unknown to some is that us Black Coats were also stationed in other areas of the building. Benches Dressing rooms, Locker rooms, and Press Box to name a few. On more than one occasion I would get the Press/Express Elevator. This was the large Elevator in the back of the house that ran straight from the Ice level to The Press box before and during the game. My time there I met quite a few players and reporters. One guy who always stood out was Karraker. He would stop and talk all the time and he was always interested in what the fan thought of what the team was doing. And to top it off, the guy remembered people. I also bumped into him at a few ballgames and he would still remember me and stop and talk about whatever sport the conversation led to. Hes not to opinionated and he was always appreciative of what the fans had to say…..
I have to say I miss that job a bit….The 2 biggest highlights I had working there was working the Colorado bench and sitting next to Patrick Roy for a whole game just shooting the shit and working Sir Paul McCartneys dressing room and just getting the chance to talk to him…….Other concerts were fun and I met quite a few Blues players in my time there too…….But the strike made the building just waaaaaaay too boring to stay on for another season….
I still maintain Vladimir Konstantinov got what he deserved...If you can't handle that then kiss my ass......

Just because Jay McClement is the best defensive forward in the NHL doesn't mean he should win the Selke.
Burwell?
If you voted for him, you are a jerk off. That guy CLEARLY has no idea about hockey.

AM and I don't agree often...
…but I’m with him all the way on this one.
I want names of the three knuckleheads who voted for Burwell on this poll. My three-year-old neice could have a more in-depth conversation about hockey than Brian “Race Card” Burwell.
BTW, I voted for Stully in this poll, just because he had Gallagher and me on his show back in the day (before the 2006 Draft), and because he digs pro wrestling (Sting FTW!!!). Karraker is the obvious choice here, though.

not only doesnt he know ANYTHING about hockey. he also is CLUELESS about st. louis. STILL
i’m pretty sure all he really does is put a typewriters in front of about 15 monkeys.
but dayum, that be good enough to get votage!!!!

I voted for Karraker,
but I wouldn’t hate it if Burwell made it in JUST so he can lose 38490-0 in the first round.
Then see him write a column about how it’s because he’s black.
I know it's time for hockey because I've started singing "Don't Stop Believing" with the words "...born and raised in FUCK DETRIOT!!!"
Bernie Miklasz
So Bernie had Mike Keenan on his show today and he pretty much admitted to giving him the softball treatment and I can understand that. However when he said something to the effect that “….and no one knew Pronger was going to be such an impact player in the NHL….” referring to the trade, I had to stop and say WTF are you smoking Bernie? I spent most of Pronger’s Blues career stationed overseas with Armed Forces Network (3am tuesday morning monday night football every week) and internet access was hard to come by. Yet, I knew Pronger was a great player and this is his “job.” So Bernie just because YOU didnt know who Pronger was because you were to ofucking busy interviewing whatever scrub Rams player, front office guy or ticket taker, dont fucking assume “nobody” knew. I guarantee Blues Fans knew. While I give Bernie credit that he admits he doesnt know much about Hockey, quit assuming we are as ignorant as you.
Glad to see Karraker and Ramsey winning. Which one makes all the Greg Oden jokes?
My Frozen Four:
Chaser, JR, Csolak and Sanders… with Angella getting honorable mention as the hottest contestant in the group (although if Katie Felts was in the mix, she’d give Angella a run for her money there).
Personally, I think Kerber needs to be not in there, just because as the pimary play-by-play guy, he’s clearly the most knowledgeable and connected guy in the media vis-a-vis the Blues, and this has an unfair advantage.
How in the hell did Cusumano,Gordon, Hadley, and O’Neill get in there? If the hockey knowledge of the four of ‘em together was converted into gasoline, it couldn’t power an ant’s Harley around the inside of a Cheerio…

Voted for

Overall I’m not sure.
I really like George’s articles.
They are so in depth I never fail to learn a lot about an individual player.

i just wanna know where i fall on the list?
im the media, damnit.
this should be fun. i hate talk radio, so those people are out. anyone who is paid by the team is out in my book, so that really leaves jr and norm. i know norm read the links, so hes got a slight lead.

I'm in the media too, more or less...
…but I thinbk Gallagher excluded us with his “aside from us, of course” line.
By the way, Donut King is in the media as well. I’m casting a write-in vote for T-Money.

Oh, and, hey Boss...
I doubt you have to worry about Kermit the Shill looking to the right of the screen. I’m sure he’s too big and important an “insider” to bother with a little fan-run blog such as we have here (which, I would venture, to say has as many knowledgeable readers as his condescending Twits Tweets have).

Not voting.
I’d have to have some kind of clue as to who these people are or what they do.
(Well, I know who some of them are, but I know they say about two words about The Note and then their brains explode.)
St. Louis Game Time . . . I need another beer.
And I can also write things in 140 characters or fewer.
I googled the names I didn't recognize.
Which was, in all probability, about the only time in history that some of those schmucks have ever shared a Google search bar with the word “hockey”.
And based on the results, it was the only time hockey has ever shared so much as a search bar with them, too.
I really miss Joe Micheletti.
Brian Stull is well rounded. And he has a radio show that covered nothing rassling. Billed himself as the last Hulkamanaic.
Stully is a guy I'm rooting for... for everything he does.
As TB noted, he put us on the air when no one would put us on the air.
Rutherford and Sanders in the championship, of course.
Most of the other guys cover/talk about hockey because it’s a sport…Jeremy and Norm cover/talk about hockey because it’s hockey.
I once shot a man just to see him die...then I got distracted and missed it.

Oh I promise, space monkeys
You’ll be able to know at least a little something about each one. But if you don’t live in the St. Louis area or at least turn on sports radio a couple times a week then a few of these folks (Tom Casey, Scott Warman, Kevin Wheeler) might not be too familiar.
Just think of them as the Siena and Mt. St. Mary’s of the NCAA tournament to Rutherford’s Duke and Kerber’s Kentucky standing.
This should be fun. And brutal. Twas Gallagher’s idea.

I think Chase could be an upset pick to get into the finals.
I think Norm and JR have the odds on their sides, but you never know when it’s an open vote.
