Good call on the 2 year contract length, Joe.

JP says

1.8 first year and 2.5 second which is great in my opinion. My only question is does this take him to unrestricted free agent when it’s up? If so we should have locked him in for at least four.

Nice…
But JP isn’t the friend I was referring to. lol

Yeah and after I hit post the edit came in on the main post.

Nope.

He’ll still be an RFA, as far as I know. I think RFA status is 10 years in the league or 27. Perron will be only 24 when this deal is up.

I love this deal even more. Keep a fire lit under him

I'm certain that "age 27" is right...

… but I’m thinking that the other condition is 8 years active service. Nobody comes into the league under age 17, so a 10-year period would be redundant.

Either way, it’s moot. He’s played three seasons and just completed his age-21 season. Perron will still be RFA in two years.

by BleedBlue42 on Jul 21, 2010 2:27 PM CDT up reply actions

The details are....

1st year: 1.8
2nd year: 2.5

According to one of my friends.

Good contract.

The carrot is hanging from the end of the stick if Perron wants to get paid in 2012.

and I sure hope he gets paid a lot in 2012.

for performance of course.

I’m hoping that, 70-80 goals from now, in 2012, Frenchie grabs that carrot and devours that mother…

That's a cap hit of, what, 2.15 I think?

That’s not too shabby, I’d say. Good work, JD and Army!

Now whatI’d like to see is what this means for EJ’s deal, if anything. Obviously he’s our franchise, but A) he’s only had two years, B) he has yet to play real top pairing minutes (though that’s mostly not his fault), and C) he can’t sign other offer sheets. I’m thinking with all that in mind, The Big Johnson measures up at about 4 mill avaunt the cap. Thoughts?

You'd have to go to at least 20 to get him into his 40s.

And everybody knows that in the new NHL, 40 is the new 33.

I don't think they'd have QOd King if they weren't going to sign him.

If nothing else, they’re going to need a fill-in for all of Janssen’s suspension time.

by BleedBlue42 on Jul 21, 2010 2:35 PM CDT up reply actions

All RFAs get QO's if they're expected to play in the next NHL season

Even if the Blues don’t sign him, they can still trade his rights away to another team that’s in need of another enforcer. The enforcer market is certainly booming, with Boogaard earning a 4-year $1.6M AAV contract and Shelley landing a 3-year $1.1M AAV. Not entirely certain how much the Blues could get in return, but the QO keeps their options open.

Gah, I'm in class all day and I miss this.

Nice move by the Blues to get him in at 2 years, so they can lock him up again at the end of this term. Very smart. Glad Frenchie’s back – I think it’s hysterical that he broke his own signing on Twitter.

Why did it have to be mid 90’s with heat indexes over 100 this wk.
It is miserable at 5:30 in the middle of a huge soccer field. And I’m just watching.
Bryce has drank over a gallon of water every night and not had to pee.

I think this is a great deal for Perron and the Blues by the way
