DJ King traded to Capitals
According to an Andy Strickland tweet, DJ King has been traded to the Washington Capitals:
"The Blues have traded tough guy D.J. King to the Washington Capitals...expect an announcement soon"
Talbot...looks like the Capitals just got Ovechkin a tiny bit of protection there, bud.
Be interesting to see what we get in return. Ovechkin? Nah...I somehow don't think so....
At least King is in the Eastern Conference - I'd have hated seeing him up against us a few times a season.

Well I figured
there was no way we kept him after we re-signed Cam can’t say I care where he went but they certainly can use an enforcer we’ll see if he can last the season.
Now I just want to know what we get in return. I’m guessing a draft pick for next year since they don’t have a forward worth about the same that we can use.

I think you’ve made the right point. No way the Blues were going to keep both King and Cam.
I can’t imagine anything significant is coming back. Likely a pick, maybe someone like Tyler Sloan or John Erskine or a minor leaguer.

Wonder what the return will be..
King is one of the best heavyweight fighters in the league and when he’s not injured he can actually provide some offense. Draft pick seems like the only return. It’s interesting, though, that heavyweights are in demand now; a while back, it was being written on this site that no playoff teams have dedicated-enforcers on their rosters, and now fighters are getting signed all over the place for multi-million dollar deals.
Strickland followed up his tweet with: “I’m told the Blues will likely sign D.J. King to a contract before they move him to Washington”
JP Rutherford says, “King agreed to a two-year contract extension prior to the trade.”
Interesting stuff.
Also as to your last comment
I’d love to see King and Cam fight each other, they are such opposites in technique. King the heavy hitter who drops them quick and Cam who just won’t drop and waits till the other guy is tired out.

Blues get a prospect from the Capitals – player that has represented Canada at WJC.

If I knew more about prospects I think we could figure this one out. Where’s Tomorrows Blues when you need him?

It’s likely a kid named Stefan Della Rovere. Made a good showing at the Caps’ Development Camp last week.
It’s certainly not John Carlson.

That would be the lifelong Caps fan in me that now lives in St. Louis.
There was maybe one other choice once Panger tweeted.
Definitely a little angst over at Japers’ Rink, but sometimes you have to do this to fill in some gaps.

FWIW...
(visit from Capsland)
Stefan Della Rovere’s an agitator and a pest who’s also willing to drop ‘em. He got into it with a fellow prospect by the name of Trevor Bruess at development camp this year – here’s the video if you want to have a gander: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1qa1fQHQNY
Offensively, he’s fallen off some from his early years but has shown more discipline and control than when he famously lost control during the WJC a couple of years ago. Here’s some more information.
Some Caps fans are a little upset, others are pleased as it means we get an enforcer which we haven’t had since Brashear went to the Rangers. The likes of Green and Semin getting run has been a problem, and we’re going to have two kids in the crease next year, so the trade makes sense for the Caps. Delly was a fan favorite, though. He’s one of those guys you hate when they don’t play for your team.

From JR's twitter feed:
The player coming to the Blues in the King trade is Stefan Della Rovere. An agitator, he was captain of the Barrie Colts last yr.
Della Rovere got into a fight at the Capitals rookie camp last week.
There has to be a Della Reece/Touched By an Angel joke in there somewhere.

Not great numbers
but an improvement from King so I’ll take it

How old's this kid?
If nothing else, he’ll have a few years on King and some wiggle room to improve.

he's apparently quite the shit talker
Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky was in a production of The King and I? Well anyway, before the show, Brasky chloroforms the entire cast, and slowly eats them in front of the audience for two hours. The production got pretty good reviews.
and he beat up prospect Nigro

I've learned to enjoy

Rovere is a fighter, a scorer, and plays on the left-wing

I dunno if I’d call him a fighter as much as an agitator. Kid can cross the line at times, but I thought he was pretty darned good for Team Canada the past 2 years.

If that sucker-punch he got says anything
it looks like he’ll be one of the best agitators in the league. Blues are looking scrappy again.
The Blues went PR
King and Cam were a wash talent-wise and usefulness-wise. Cam, being the local boy, won.
I’m just surprised the Blues got a warm body and not a bag of pucks, or a 4/5th round pick.
St. Louis Game Time Fact: Morning links are part of a well-balanced meal.
SBNSTL Writing about the Blues in more than one line is tough.
I was hoping a 7th rounder would do it, at best.
The fact that it’s a warm body makes this a win for the Blues.
I really like The Deej, but I think the Blues can thank, in part, the Rangers’ signing of Boogaard for the return value, because I REALLY didn’t think King was going to bring back someone that seems of some value to the organization. Even AFTER the seemingly-insane Boogaard signing.
St. Louis Game Time . . . I need another beer.
And I can also write things in 140 characters or fewer.
The rundown:
The Eastern Conference throws out skilled lines, needs enforcers to protect the players. Jody Shelley, Derek Boogaard, Colton Orr are all that’s needed to deter dirty-playing; however, the West all have players that can fend for themselves. Cam Janssen is enough already, considering that we already have BJ Crombeen who can both play and fight.. so DJ King was up for sale.
Caps want enforcer, they get one of the best. In exchange, the Blues get Della Rovere, a scrappy kid who will probably be our 4th line LW at some point, if not for the ‘10-11 season. The 4th line would be Rover-Sobotka-Janssen: an agitator, a checker, and a fighter. Hopefully, if Janssen can stay on the ice long enough, this line will actually be able to produce some solid numbers in the point department. Also, if that is our 4th line, then our checking line is going to be composed entirely of 5’11" players. Crazy.
Also, if you believe what Andy Strickland says, Rover is a close-friend of Petro. Good deal for the Blues, even if he doesn’t play in the NHL this season. A lot more than what I was expecting for King, anyway.
From a Caps fan:
Delly’s a gritty player – someone posted the stats above. He’s a sandpaper guy who can get under your skin while displaying some good offensive skill.
He’s not afraid to drop ’em, as he got in a few fights in the OHL this year (as someone posted above).
He’s also got some leadership qualities, as he’s the captain of Barrie and was an assistant captain at the World Juniors.
Gonna miss him – he’s a pesky, annoying player with some offensive prowess – but excited to see what King can bring to my Caps, as he’s one of the best in the biz.
"Imagine if you go see Mrs. Universe, then you end up having Mrs. Iowa. Then you might get those kind of boos." - Miguel Batista
"Rover" sounds like a decent nickname for the kid, eh?
LINK to Della Rovere stats at ontario hockey league dot com.
Kid scored 8 goals in 17 playoff games, in addition to being a plus-3 and picking up 29 PIM; that’s not bad for a guy playing third- and fourth-line minutes.
In four OHL seasons, he average 16-18-34, plus-3, 120 PIM per year. If he can approach 10 goals and 20-25 points, and pick up 120 PIM as a rookie in Peoria this year, I’ll take that.
I think that’s got the checking/energy line pretty much set in Peoria now — from left to right, Della Rovere, Nigro, Reaves. You’ll get some hitting and hard work out of that line, and maybe 25-30 goals as a unit if all goes well.

I had a feeling The Deej was a goner as soon as CamTits signed.
But to think that The Note could get even so much as a warm body in return is . . . excellent.
Even if Mr. Della Rovere goes nowhere in the Blues’ system, this is a really shrewd trade by the team. Trading someone you don’t particularly need for something you don’t particularly know what you can do with, when you probably could’ve traded the person you don’t particularly need for a 7th round draft pick and not a damn person in the hockey world would’ve batted an eyelash. I’m really starting to like this Doug Armstrong person.
