Sunday Links: Headlined by Clarke MacArthur and Bill Clement Edition
Is it time for training camp yet? No? Shit.
How 'bout now? Damn.
Blues News:
- Thanks to DanGNR, we now know what the Blues think of themselves in their 2010-11 Season Preview.
NHL News:
- For one day, Clarke MacArthur gets to be the biggest headline in the hockey world. The former Thrasher signed with Toronto for $1.1 mil.
- Four former Broad Street Bullies are getting their United States Citizenship. This does nothing to change my opinion of Bill Clement as a commentator.
Other Stuff:
- Prospects Department sends in his favorite Czech website concerning beer and a promo video of some of the finer women in that particular area.
- Walmart Parenting Fails. This might as well go hand in hand with People of Walmart.
- These celebrity products would fly off the shelf. Watch your back, Rosetta Stone.
- How to catch a thief using the autotimer function on your camera.
Video:
Quite simply, a man getting hit by an ice cream truck hits a level of hilarity in me that requires watching this video multiple times.
Although nothing may ever top Man Getting Hit By Football. It works on so many levels!
Open Thread:
We're entering that last month of the offseason before hockey returns to warm the cockles of our hearts.
How in the hell are you passing the time between now and when hockey starts?
I find myself re-watching old highlight reels and playing the hell out of the NHL '11 demo. I'm also spending countless hours debating the merits of each jersey I have and which one has the potential to be this year's "Lucky Sweater." Share your methods of passing time in the comments.
You could also share links for the work week with Averagejoe if leaving a comment just isn't enough. Your call.

Hockey starts on Saturday for me.
Jr. Blues game against the Chicago Hitmen. Starts at 7pm on Sept. 4 at the Nelson Center, 1601 North 5th (situated in the middle of Lincoln Park) in Springfield, IL. Tickets are $3.00 and proceeds go to help one of the team’s board members whose daughter was critically injured in a boating accident in July. Then on Friday the 10th is the Jr. Blues’ home opener against the St. Louis Bandits.
We can all get a jumpstart on the NHL season by going to our local juniors games. It’ll take the edge off, at least.

I now officially ban the Illinois State Fair for letting the Hawks "fans", celebrate winning the cup!

Poring over rosters and stats from 2009-10 in the major European U18 junior leagues, as well as the major junior leagues, USHL, and Junior A leagues… working on putting together the most comprehensive list of potential 2011 draft picks available in the Greater St. Louis Area.
Of course, no one will take it seriously, because I’m just a blogger…

In my DVD player right now...
… is the Blues-Oilers game from the MacInnis retirement night. I found it the other day on a spindle of random stuff. I’ve never watched the game, something about me having gotten married the day before.
Impressions from the first period: Good God, that team was starved for talent. I barely recognize some of the names (Hoggan? Dallman?). Guys like Glumac and Whitfield were getting power-play time. Woof!
Eh, I might try to teach my students something...
… work seems to be a good time killer. Currently watching every season of AbFab, but since there are 6 episodes a season, that won’t keep me amused for much longer – already started season 5. I might read a few more books… I have Grace Slick’s autobiography sitting next to me, as well as a book on God and the Founding Fathers called American Gospel. Hammering my way through a murder mystery with Charles Dickens as a character in it called Drood – a lot better than it sounds.
And, of course, sitting in a small room at debate tournaments on some weekends to earn back what they cut out of my paycheck in furlough days. So glad to see that my stipend causes me to break even. It’d help if they’d remember to put this month’s stipend on the check, but I don’t think they will, so I have no clue what I’ll be getting paid Tuesday, and how many hundred dollars short it’ll be.

You're livin' the dream, Hildy...
Believe it or not, I always wanted to be a history teacher and debate coach… but at an all-girls’ college.

The kids might be a bit less annoying in that case.
We’ve got a serious testosterone OD going on with these debate kids.

lots of fishing
shooting the bow getting ready for bear & deer hunting season.
Shooting video for our hunting company.
Shooting a video of my visit to the new fortuneteller on what the Blues will do this year.
The break this year has been brutal, I think because we got shortchanged last year. Good times coming.
Just a chew toy for the hockey gods
