Mike Weaver expected to sign with Florida Panthers
Mike Weaver, after a career renaissance in St. Louis, is taking his talents to South Beach.
Weaver, the long-armed defensive-dman with the bad-ass beard was a key penalty killer and a reliable even-strength player. He contributed nothing on offense, but played sound defense. Now, he's getting paid: 2-years $1.8 million to play for the Panthers.

Bummer
I liked Mike “Monkey Arms” Weaver. Never flashy, but exceptionally reliable and consistent I felt he was at least as defensively responsible as Jackman, and way more sturdy than Brewer. Oh well, maybe that spot will get filled by Strachan or Pietrangelo.

Weren't we offering 2?
I thought we were offering 2 years 2 mil and he wanted longer.
He raged at the world, at his family, at his life. But mostly he just raged.
Just because Jay McClement is the best defensive forward in the NHL doesn't mean he should win the Selke.

Damn
I sure wanted Weaver to stay.
It’ll be interesting to see where we end up this yr in the penalty kill stats.

I like Mike, but don’t consider him a difference-maker.
Better to have young defensemen learn [make mistakes] during the minutes he would have played.

The writing was on the wall...
… when the Blues declined to buy out Brewer’s final year. They could have paid Weaver for the upcoming year out of the savings from a Captain Flatline buyout, and had money left over; but they chose to go a different route.
When Brewer’s services were retained, it basically became an either-or choice between Colaiacovo and Weaver. Then Cola re-upped, and that pretty much ended Weaver’s chances of coming back.
I like Weaver. He’s the modern-day Jeff Finley. Hope he does well in Miami, and doesn’t get too distracted by all that glorious snatch down in F-L-A.

The next step towards building a solid NHL defensive corps
I imagine that the Blues defense will be made of Johnson, Pietrangelo, Cole, Jackman, Polak, and possibly Colaiacovo (or whatever left-shooting defender will work in his place — Junland?). The Jackman-Polak duo are pretty good defenders, and would be an amazingly good 3rd pairing if the two pairings above are better.
My guess for the future of Blues defenders:
Cole-Johnson
Junland-Pietrangelo
Jackman-Polak
My oh my, that does look good.
Jackman certainly won't be a number 1 shutdown dman in two-three years...
but any scenerio where he’s a 3rd pairing guy is going to be pretty damn formidable! I can’t wait!
I know it's time for hockey because I've started singing "Don't Stop Believing" with the words "...born and raised in FUCK DETRIOT!!!"
Between Reasoner & Weaver...
… the Panthers’ PK just improved a lot. Not like that’s saying much… but still.

Man, I’m going to miss Weaver’s play. Never afraid to to take one for the team. He’ll be missed

Best of luck Mike
Thought we should have kept him even as a number 7 or 8 dman, but that’s the game. Hell of a player and I hope he doesn’t lose his taste for hockey playing in Florida (on the bad team). Should have tried getting to Tampa lol.

I’m surprised that Weaver didn’t hold a televised press conference announcing his intentions to take his monkey-armed game to South Beach.
Weaver is a good third pairing d-man. The problem is that the Blues are full of second and third pairing guys, and someone had to go.
Farewell Mike Weaver, we barely knew ye.
