Make the fans feel good
The Blues will open there preseason at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.
This offseason the Blues get rid of speedster Paul Kariya, but acquire much needed Goaltender support in previous Canadian started Jaroslav Halak.
St. Louis against the Aves in the past year are not looking very good, at 0-4 head-to-head, the Blues have been outscored by 13, but not to worry this new team should be able fill the gaps and hole of last seasons mishaps.
A win tomorrow would give the Fans and Team Members of the St. Louis organization a huge boost to get started in the 2010-11 season. The Blues roster this year was made to win, and win they will do.
Go Blues!!! Start off the season well, all up to you Halak.

Good defense turns lousy scorers into good scorers.
If we have good defense, we’ll have good scoring. If we have great defense, we’ll look ready for the Cup.

I totally disagree. Good defense turns lousy scorers into winners, but more defense means less scoring. I do think team defense is essential in the playoffs, but so is offense. We need more people who can score bad. A legit 40+ goal scorer would be nice. Next year I guess…

Defense??
Some of the funnest hockey to watch was them high flying Oilers back in the 80s.
Just a chew toy for the hockey gods
I'm working with the law of averages, I guess.
A good defender will get the puck up to a guy who’s a lousy scorer more often, thus giving him more chances to shoot and score. If the lousy scorer does his part and keep sending the puck towards the net he’ll eventually get more goals. More goals equal more wins. If you don’t have a very good forward, it may take a lot more shots on goal. It’s tough to watch, true, but there’s always more opportunities for goals when a good defense is playing.

Correct
The Job of the Defenseman is to get assists and a good defenseman know how do that the right way, and its the National Hockey League everyone is decent, goals will be scored, and games will be, its when this happens that is key.

Right,
So, the Penguins, Red Wings, and Blackhawks all won the cup by playing great defense?
You don’t score, you don’t win. Find me a group of players on the Blues that can be counted on to score every game and I will start to believe. Until then, we will do what we can with 2-3 goals a game.

You can win a game with 1 to 3 goals...
… if you shut the opposing team’s offense down. What would that be with? Right. Defense.

Halak
Plus with Jaroslav Halak there will be many games this year like that

Maybe not tonight's, though.
I would have liked to have seen or heard it instead of the cluster of problems that the Avs radio had.

Agreed
No where could find decent quality material, but it happens. Hopefully Halak will settle in and solidify his job as Blues member

The Pens Wings and Hawks won by having defense, AND a fuckload of offense. Having Malkin on your second line is a nice problem to have.
Hell if you look at why the Capitals didn’t go far in the playoffs, 1-35 on the power play. Lack of offense.
Of course, when a team that scores an average of 4 goals a game and converts 25% of their powerplays has a offense die in the playoffs, there is no guarantee offense produces.

Both
All in all both offense and defense are need to be sucessful in NHL without one the teams falls apart no matter which way you look at it

True Statement
And with three of the 5 team captains being defensemen it gives the Blues the real edge to make a run for it.
2010
The defense of the Blues will keep them in the race this year and that is good but St. Louis does need a player that teams will fear when they come in Missouri, the intimidation factor is key, the Avalanche is a great example, and the Blues are going to try and get past that tonight as we see what 2010 has in store for us.

Errors in this post
1. “The Blues will open THERE preseason…”
2. “This offseason the Blues GET rid of…”
3. “Goaltender” is not a proper noun.
4. “previous CANADIAN” should be Canadien
5. “Started” should be starter
6. “The Aves” should be the Avs. Or the Avalanche
7. St. Louis is singular, not plural. So any to be verb with St. Louis as the subject should be is, not are.
8. The third paragraph is one run-on sentence
9. It should be last season’s mishaps.
10. Fans is not a proper noun.
11. Team members is not a proper noun.
12. Finally, I would contend your statement that the Blues “are made to win” needs qualifications. Are they made to win in the regular season? Are they made to win in the playoffs? Are the made to win the Stanley Cup? If your answer is the last one, I would heartily disagree. They simply need more offense.

Sorry...
Well as you may know a high school student that is taking all honors classes, plays varsity baseball and hockey doesnt have much time in his day to revise these posts, so please cut me some slack and win as winning season.
