Excelling at the Excel.

The St. Louis Blues faced off against Nick Backstrom and Mikko Koivu of the Wild out in Minneapolis today. The Blues picked up their first preseason win in convincing fashion tonight winning 5 to 1.

Both teams played most of their starters, except for the Blues new tender Jaroslav Halak. The replacement goalie Ben Bishop played today in MN and personally I was very exited to see this guy play, I heard that when he played for Peoria last year he did a great job but the Blues front office wouldnt give him a chance to play up.

After a minute into the game I thought it was going to be another one of those high scoring games where there is no D and the goalies have and insanely low save percentage, but after Bishop let that first shot go he just kept getting better as the game progressed, I hope to see this 6 7 monster of a goalie play again for the Blues, but this time in the regular season.

The true Blues starters played as us as fans would expect in a 5-1 victory. Brewer, Backes, Boyes played and skated like they owned the place tonight, all was good with there play except for a stupid hooking penalty that Eric Brewer took early in the first. Besides these Blues veterans I also liked the play of few up and comers including Ian Cole, Graham Mink, and Nikita Nikitin. Good job boys.

Another thing I would like to stress is tonights power play lines, 3 of the 5 St. Louis goals were scored with a man advantage, the puck movement was very precise with few mistakes.

As you all know the Blues have a day off before playing the Wild again, but in St. Louis at the Scottrade Center. If the Blues can win in just about every category as they did tonight, the outcome will likely be near the same.

I am glad my real home team could pull out the win in my now home town Minneapolis, I would like to see another one of these solid games on Friday, the only thing I would like to point out is the Blues squad has been involved in a fight in both of there games so far this year, lighten up guys.

Great Game!!! Victory!!! Go Blues!!!

I have to admit

I stopped reading after the second sentence when you used there instead of their.

Sir, all I’m going to suggest is quality over quantity. If you want to get noticed and your strategy is to make a lot of posts, I guess that’s one way to do it. But when the posts are filled with grammatical errors and are difficult to just get through, people are going to stop reading. Fair warning.

Also,

This is a pretty savvy group of fans around here and they’re going to expect quality, not quantity. This isn’t a message board and these aren’t your everyday readers. They will be more impressed and you will get more and better feedback if you take your time and put together something of value.

You went to the game tonight while most of us didn’t see anything. Tell us something that we don’t know by telling us what you saw, not just “They skated like they owned the place.”

You’ll get what I think you’re looking for that way.

Welcome to the site, just, you know, calm down a little bit.

I figured someone was gonna have to say something, was waiting for a good time to do it.

The best way to put it kid is right now your at a 7, we’re gonna need you to bring it down to about a 3.

I only got to listen

to the last half of the game. I can’t comment on the poll.
I have to say what I enjoyed most was getting all of us back together for a GDT even though it was unofficial.

It was pre-season

Ignoring the rust that was apparent from both teams, it was a fun game to watch. There was some obvious lack of communication between Bishop and the defense early on (which nearly cost a goal at one point when a Wild forward snuck in while they were playing hot potato with the puck and got a shot off that Bishop barely stopped as he rushed from behind the net), but they improved as the game went on.

I was impressed by Cole – he looked really comfortable and seemed to make good decisions. Nikitin, besides causing me palpitations by making passes through the slot with forecheckers uncomfortably close, also looked pretty good overall. For some reason I was surprised there weren’t more whistles for stupid shit like off-sides, too many men, etc. I always expect that from the kids. Oh, and Cam got in a slow-starting, but decent draw of a scrap with Staubitz. And nearly one with Burns, but instead took a BS call for holding (if I remember right).

The PP and PK both looked pretty solid overall, especially considering how many prospects were in the lineup. Although the PK did get lucky a few times with shots just missing or being deflected (poorly) at the last second. The Blues did dominate the play pretty much throughout and managed 5 goals. How cool would it be to see that kind of production even every other game?

The Wild are a bit of a question mark this year as far as I can tell, but if the Blues can control games like they did Wednesday, keep improving on their special teams, and keep up the scoring chances, they have the potential (key word) to be better than we expected this year.

Also, the $9 beers were fantastic, but my pretzel was rock hard… and $5.
