Tuesday links: Only a few more roster cuts left edition
I had to see guys sent to Peoria and juniors and all that, but as the fewer bodies left in camp, the closer the season is to starting.
Blues news
- And then there were 30 — three goalies, 10 dmen and 17 forwards. [BND]
- Vladimir Sobotka isn't practicing. He's not a petulant dude, he's just got a bad wing. [St. Louis Post-Dispatch]
- Big Ben Bishop has been turning some heads with his play. [St. Louis Post-Dispatch]
Hockey news
- From Ian: A look at the Atlanta Thrashers and their recruitment of black players. Very interesting. [Pass it to Bulis]
- The Flyers are dealing with goalie injury issues yet again. [Broad Street Hockey]
- A long look at Wade Redden. [Hockey Wilderness]
- The Sharks are going from ol' reliable Evgeni Nabokov to Antti Niemi and Antero Niittymaki. Things are gonna change. [Fear the Fin]
- Cristobal Huet is going from Chicago to the Swiss National League. Upgrade? I think so. [TSN]
- Wade Redden is going to the minors and other waiver news. [TSN]
- Carey Price didn't suck Rejoice, Habs fans! [TSN]
Other links
- I saw this story early Monday and laughed. Passed it along to NatetheGreat, and he too laughed. Gallagher sent it to me, so I'm assuming he laughed. That means you know it's good. [Guardian]
- Google instant won't instantly show you what you're searching for if you type in a few (a lot) of these words. [2600]
- When someone asks me if I've seen a movie I haven't, I often lie and say "parts of it." With this site, I can do the same for 100 books and not really be lying. That's pretty sweet. [American Book Review]
Video
I found Louis CK's show "Louie" to be really funny/awesome. Since we seem to have a "Ferris" theme going on around here, I figured I'd share this with the class. Enjoy.

With Niemi and Niittymaki, will they need to change the name of the website to “Fear the Finn” ?

Actually, it’s like we’re playing black hockey player Pokemon – gotta catch them all! Watch out, Grier and Simmonds – YOU’RE NEXT.
muhahahaha
In all seriousness, that is a hell of an awesome article. Thank you for posting it – if BWA weren’t blocked at work (don’t ask), I’d post it over there right now.
Yes, I realize the hilarity in me being able to access GT and not BWA.

I've been excited about Sobotka ever since the trade for him
Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli called Sobotka (who is 5 feet 10, 183 pounds) “a little wrecking ball” in last year’s NHL playoffs.
Dear Vladimir Sobotka,
Welcome to the Blues. I don’t care if you score goals, make pretty plays, or win games. I just want you to be Mike Weaver.
Sincerely,
Dan
You're not gonna make him wear some kind of creepy Mike Weaver suit, are you?
I mean, that’d be great for making the opposition’s skin crawl, but we’ve got to let Sobotka be Sobotka.

Those costumes are a family bucket of WRONG with four jumbo WRONG drinks.
I think that the phrase “I love this bar” is appropriate for the level of wrong that has been brought to this blogpost.

2) bishop will be the first blues draft choice since jd to be a nhl starting quality net minder
what do we do with bis?
his only chances of seeing the note this season are injury or a conk trade, but starting next season he could become a career long blues’ backup. is he more valuable than that, and if so what do we do about it?

See that's what I'm wondering
If a team like Philly keeps having Goalie problems and Bishop is looking ready do we trade Conks for a little offensive might? As much as I love Conker I might be ok with that option.

no.
if you get rid of bish or conks, you’re one injury away from the jake allen era beginning. allen doesnt appear nhl ready.
if you deal conks and halak gets injured, would you really want a bish/allen tandem?

SBNSTL Writing about the Blues in more than one line is tough.
If Bish is ready to shoulder the load
it might still work he’d just have to shoulder more games than most starters which isn’t great I admit. Not being able to see Bishop with my own eyes I can’t speak on if I think he’s ready or not but if he really is and we can get a good offensive player in the deal it would be a gamble but one that might be worth taking.

"Google Instant" sucks.
If you’re used to using long search strings for the sake of narrower results, Instant will start pulling up hits before you complete typing – which is the point of the thing. However, there’s a pause when it pops up the results; and during that pause, keystrokes you type might get lost.
