Friday links: Gangster Gibbs and T.J. Oshie edition
Friday night is football night. It's starting to feel like fall outside. It's starting to feel like hockey season.
Blues news
- Some tool at SB Nation St. Louis wants to put T.J. Oshie on the third line. Tool. [SBNSTL]
Hockey news
- On the Forecheck introduces you to the Preds new beat writer. [On the Forecheck]
- Nucks Misconduct looks at who took, and who drew, the most penalties last season. Not surprised Ryan Kesler drew the most — if I played against him, I know I'd slash him constantly. [Nucks Misconduct]
- Earl Sleek is awesome. [Battle of California]
- In Lou We Trust plays the blame game regarding Ilya Kovalchuk and the contract that won't get approved. [In Lou We Trust]
- Jordan Staal will miss the beginning of camp with a foot infection. [ESPN]
- Carey Price, aka Smokey McFornicator, is staying in Montreal. [ESPN]
- Antti Niemi is now a Shark. Officially. This was reported yesterday, but it's always wise to get the official word to confirm stories. As Mike Wise showed earlier this week, anyone can make shit up on the internets. [ESPN]
- Blues killer Chris Stewart is getting paid. I figured he'd be making 200-300 less if he never played against the Blues. [TSN]
- Marc Savard's agent goes off on the NHL. [TSN]
Other links
- The world of milkshakes is crazier than you think. One complaint about the list: Grape Kool-Aid is "Purple" Kool-Aid. [WomansDay.com]
- First day of school pictures always awkward. No kid is happy to be going back to school. [Buzzfeed]
- Texting can be very dangerous, and I'm not talking about driving. [Manofest]
Video
I've been sitting on this video for a while, but today seems like the perfect day to unleash it on the masses. For starters, Gangster Gibbs is awesome. However, the real reason I wanted to share this with the class is for today's topic of discussion. At 1:16 in the video, a Blues hat makes a cameo appearance. To me, this is the most random Blues logo spotting I've ever seen — the Blues note in a rap video not by Nelly? Never seen it. So I ask you, friends: What's the most random Blues logo you've spotted in pop culture. Does this take the cake?
Anyway ponder that while enjoying Freddie Gibbs.
That's it for me today. Poor College Student will be your tour guide for the weekend. Send him stuff to gametimelinks(at)gmail.com
Also, F-U Friday returns and well, you're not going to want to miss it.

Baltimore Blast - 6-time MISL/NISL Champions
Let's go Blues!
And yes
I know that was in the thread I had to second it though.

First time I noticed the Bluenote in a non-hockey context...
… was a decal on the side of Bob and Doug MacKenzie’s van, in Strange Brew.
So . . .
is Larry Kelly the first agent to notice that Bettman sides with the owners, like, all the damn time . . . or is he just the first agent to actually VOICE that concern?
If it’s the former, then NHL agents are incredibly fucking stupid. If it’s the latter, then NHL agents have no balls.
Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
St. Louis Game Time . . . I need another beer.
And I can also write things in 140 characters or fewer.
Accusing Bettman of siding with the owners...
… is like accusing an agent of siding with his players. You always talk up the people who are paying you.
Game Time on the Highway...
I thought about making this a fanpost, but decided it is too much work… so here it is…
I was driving south on I-55 just before 255, someone in a dark color camry or corolla pulled up even with me on my right and honked at me. He pointed to my back window and said (I think) “Game Time” and gave me a thumbs up.
Ya see, I have one of THESE on the back of my car.

I’d like to think it was a fan of Game Time and that is what he said.
Hopefully he reads this and lets me know it was in fact Game Time.
Either that, or the body was falling out of my trunk.
PC Load Letter? What the fuck does that mean?
Do you have a river city flyers or stl disc golf putter in your window as well? If so we work at the same place and park in the same lot. Ive always wanted to know who the hells car that was.
didnt really mention it, but im a pretty avid disc golf as well, so whenever I see your/that car i really wonder who owns it.
Yep
That’s me.
You play leagues or anything? weekly’s? Tourney’s?
I play the JB league on Tuesdays. sometimes tourneys.
so was it you that I was talking about on 55?
PC Load Letter? What the fuck does that mean?
no, that wasn’t me actually. its just something I’ve noticed walking into work.
I don’t play in leagues, I’m not opposed to them, I just kind of like to get out when I can, I’d say I’m an average to good player, right now my goal is to break par at endicott, shot even last month, but not quite there yet. I live in south city so JB is the closest for me, played it many a time.
I think theres an outside chance we met in the softball league this summer, but then again who knows, that could have very well been someone else who enjoyed disc golf. If you are who I think you are, I pitched for Beerodesy.
Oh yeah...
Small world ain’t it?
I played 2nd. Great league ehh? I love bear league softball. I just hate those ’Softball Guys" though.
Strange, I consider myself an above avg DGer and have never shot par at Endi.
SP and JB tho? I usually do better.
PC Load Letter? What the fuck does that mean?

You will have to ask the PPP guys, I don’t know the whole story either. Im under the assumption he is smoking in basically every picture like the link carnie has and apparently he likes his woman young.
He raged at the world, at his family, at his life. But mostly he just raged.
Just because Jay McClement is the best defensive forward in the NHL doesn't mean he should win the Selke.
Blue Notes in strange places
The most ironic place I’ve seen the Note was in one of the best sports movies ever made. I only say it’s ironic because of the so-called city and area where this movie was based, with all the hockey teams there..I’m talking about Slapshot…

It’s in the background, but it’s the only actual hockey team logo you see in the movie.
Slap Shot trivia
According to IMDB:
Bruce Boudreau, head coach of the NHL’s Washington Capitals, appears in the film wearing #7 for the Hyannisport Presidents. Boudreau was one of several players for the Johnstown Jets minor league hockey team that were used as extras.
