Tuesday links: Charitable Cam Janssen edition
Hope everyone had a great Labor Day. I know I did. I guess.
Blues news
- Cam Janssen is being charitable. He's starting a campaign to get people to do good things. [Yahoo! Sports]
- Recent Blues draftee Cody Beach is helping a Slovak goalie learn English and get comfortable in North America — no not that one, one on his junior team. If he ever makes the NHL, hopefully he'll be able to bond with Mr. Halak. [Calgary Sun]
Hockey news
- In Lou ... tries to figure out what the Devils' record was when Martin Broduer gave up a soft goal. Don't look for that kind of post here regarding Chris Mason, we already know that: 30-22-8. [In Lou We Trust]
- Fredrik Modin is going to Hotlanta. [TSN]
- Jonathan Cheechoo, who owes his career to Joe Thorton, is going to Stars camp. This could be you Brad Boyes. [TSN]
- Owen Nolan thinks he can still play. He's probably the only one. [Yahoo! Sports]
- An internet-owned hockey team? I think I proposed that a while back with the GT readers buying the Blues. [Puck Daddy]
Other links
- I haven't flown much, but I found myself nodding to a lot of these things. The rushed feeling while you take your shoes off is dead on. [The Oatmeal]
- Prisoners can make more than just shivs, although they do make a lot of those, too. Remember kids: A shiv is a weapon, to shank is the verb. [Sloshspot Blog]
- My mom would love this website. [Things Organized Neatly]

Brilliant.

We harp on Mason but in all honestly he had some real over the top good performances. Last year it was the soft goal/great save game in between good starts.
He raged at the world, at his family, at his life. But mostly he just raged.
Just because Jay McClement is the best defensive forward in the NHL doesn't mean he should win the Selke.
Should be 28-22-8.
Pretty sure he didn’t give up a softie in either of his 2 shutouts.
He’s a decent goalie. I just liked the joke, that’s all.

Semi sort of off topic
After watching that awesome Boise St vs VT game last night—-
Every time I saw Boise QB Kellen Moore I thought of Oshie.

So SBNation did their mock fantasy draft thing and apparently we managed to lose Jackman and Crombeen. Who did we protect? http://www.sbnation.com/2010/9/7/1673350/sb-nations-mock-nhl-expansion-draft

the rules were screwy
basically, we/brad had to protect guys that really didn’t have to be protected in a real draft.
in any case, this is what brad submitted:
G: Jaroslav Halak
D: Carlo Colaiacovo, Erik Johnson, Roman Polak, Jonas Junland, Alex Pietrangelo
F: David Backes, Patrik Berglund, Brad Boyes, Jay McClement, Andy
McDonald, Oshie, David Perron, Vladimir Sobotka, Alex Steen
That leaves: Conk Block, Eric Brewer, Barret Jackman, BJ Crombeen,
Matt D’Agostini, Cam Janssen, and Brad Winchester.
Like I said, if this were real, Petro and Junland wouldn’t factor in and Jackman would have been protected. But it’s not.

SBNSTL Writing about the Blues in more than one line is tough.
Players who have played in 49 or fewer games are automatically exempt and do not need to be protected.
Eh for pie and junland?

It had something to do with contracts
We had to expose people and protect people. They changed the rules. Either that or Brad didn’t read the rules.
