Congratulations to Vladimir Tarasenko and Team Russia for their amazing five-goal comeback in the third period to knock off favored Canada for the Gold medal at the 2011 U-20 World Junior Championship in Buffalo, NY.

Congratulations as well to prospects Sebastian Wännström, who along with Team Sweden lost the bronze medal game to Team USA, and Jaden Schwartz, who skated in two games for Team Canada before suffering an ankle injury that will keep him our of action for a minimum of six weeks.

The Game Time Featured Prospect of the week for Jan. 9, 20110 is Cade Fairchild, native of "Dinkytown," Duluth, Minnesota, and defenseman for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers.

2010-11 • Senior Season: Recorded an assist against Massachusetts (10/9) • blocked a team-high six shots against St. Cloud State (10/22) • registered five of team's 13 blocked shots at Colorado College (10/29) • took a team-high five shots, scored a shorthanded goal, had two assists and was +4 at Colorado College (10/30) • shorthanded goal was team's second of the year (Erik Haula at Colorado College on Oct. 29) • had an assist against Wisconsin (11/6) • was a team-high +4 and had two assists at Michigan Tech (11/19) • scored a power-play goal against Michigan State (11/26) • had a team-high five blocked shots and the secondary assist on team's first goal of the game against Michigan (11/28), a crisp blueline-to-blueline pass to Jacob Cepis to set up a two-on-one • took five shots and scored his third goal of the season at Minnesota State (12/4) • left Dec. 10 game against No. 2 Minnesota-Duluth with an upper-body injury and did not play Dec. 12 • blocked four shots against Union (12/31) • had one assist and a team-high five blocked shots against Ferris State (1/1).

The interview is from early November 2010, and you'll have to sit through a 25-second commercial for having Gopher sports updates sent live to your cell phone...

In the "Inside College Hockey" 2008-09 Preview, Fairchild's on-ice vision and "his ability to find teammates to feed" with passes drew praise. He has won gold with Team USA in the 2006 U-18 World Juniors (alongside Erik Johnson and Chicago's Patrick Kane), silver with the U-18 squad in 2007, and finished out of the medal picture with the U-20 squad in 2008 and 2009.
