Road Music: 10/22 @ Philadelphia Flyers

Just as important as the win last night, was HOW they won. Coming back from being down 2-0, it would have been easy to pack it in and chalk it up to "more of the same". But they didn't. Our boys battled. The ice seemed slanted towards the Carolina zone, as the Blues dominated possession of the puck. They eventually scored one goal, and then another ... and then went on to OT. Taking a penalty early in overtime made the task harder, and we've already been conditioned to anticipate a PPG against... but the 'Canes didn't score. The Blues killed the penalty and kept at it. A faceoff win, a pinpoint pass, and BOOM - a win for the good guys. The Blues never seem to do nothing "Nice ... and Easy". They like to do it "Nice... and Rough". Perhaps it was a little pride that made the Blues more resilient? In any case. playing again the very next day might make it easier to keep momentum going. From the banks of the Mississippi last night to the Delaware River tonight, the Blues need to keep on rollin'.

The Enemy: The Flyers made huge moves this past offseason, shaking up the locker room and shipping out Jeff Carter and Mike Richards. Also there were the free-agent signings for Ilya Bryzgalov and Jaromir Jagr. The net result of all of this remains to be seen, obviously, but the Flyers are off to a decent start of 4-1-1. That one regulation loss was to the Capitals in their previous game on Thursday. The Flyer offense will begin with Claude Giroux, who leads the team with 8 points (5G/3A) in six games played. Right behind him is old friend "Captain Warmth" Chris Pronger, with 1G and 5A. Someone else to keep an eye on is third-year man James van Riemsdyk (2G/2A). If the camera pans to the pressbox, we might even catch a glimpse of Matt Walker (12 wings/ 2 hotdogs). As for goaltending, Bryzgalov has started off with a 2.59 GAA and .910 save percentage.

Final Verse: Being on Eastern Time, tonight's game starts at 6:00 St Louis time. This gives you a full hour before the Cardinals come on for World Series game 3. The broadcasts are on Fox Sports MidWest for TV, and "Fresh" 102.5 FM KEZK for over-the-air radio (the web stream of KMOX 1120 AM may still have hockey, since the MLB are assholes about radio broadcasts). The GDT thread should drop shortly beforehand. Until then, discuss our love/hate relationship with Chris Pronger, make your best "Dry Island" wisecracks, and watch a video of today's song with Tina Turner working EVERY INCH of that fringe:
