Fuck. Yes.

Blues News

  • The big news from late yesterday: Sources say Matthew Hulsizer has a verbal agreement to buy the Blues. The deal will also keep Checketts around. [P-D]
  • Sources also say that this "verbal agreement" doesn't exist, says Andy Dickland. [True Hockey]
  • Your preview for Saturday's game is up. Nashville, prepare to get taken out back. [Yahoo! Sports]
  • A season preview from Panthers country that oddly starts in the middle of the author's thoughts. [Miami Herald]

NHL/Hockey News

  • Want to go to a Jets game? Prepare to pay up to 13x face value if you choose the resale market (and by "choose," I mean, "your only choice"). [Puck Daddy]
  • The Jets look to change what the Thrashers did wrong in the second half of this past season. [Atlanta Journal-Constitution]
  • But we can never forget Atlanta. From the ashes rise the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL, who are entering their 9th season, looking to lure former Thrasher diehards to their rink. [AP]
  • As we welcome the NHL season, we have to say goodbye to Sean Avery. I hope the last paragraph of this article is thick sarcasm. [Deadspin]
  • Who's new in town? What are the new rules? Who's approaching major milestones? All this info and more with NHL.com's statistical overview of their 95th season. [NHL]
  • A few more tidbits from across the league as the season begins. [Sporting News]
  • Sabres great Rick Martin, who died in March from a heart attack, was found to have a degenerative brain disease. Researchers are finding this development strange, as Martin was not an enforcer. [USA Today]
  • The NHL needs to capitalize on the momentum that has been rolling through the past seasons. Another Ottawa/Anaheim Cup Final would be disastrous. [Forbes]
  • In this corner: "The NBA lockout can only benefit the NHL." [The Towerlight]
  • In the other corner: "Hah! Basketball is basketball and hockey is hockey." [CSN Bay Area]
  • BizNasty 2.0 gets re-upped for 2 years in the desert. Great for him. He's the only non-Blues player I follow on Twitter for a reason. [NHL]
  • Brain Gionta, the American captain of the Canadiens, is rad. [Habs Eyes on the Prize]

Other Stuff

  • Learn how to be stupid with pick-up lines to get more chicks. No joke, this totally works. [YouTube]
  • The Busch Stadium Rally Squirrel made a repeat performance last night, helping the Cardinals beat the Phillies in Game 3. [Yahoo! Sports]
  • The best drinking game ever: Battleship. [Tosh.0]

Looove the Gladiators.

Talk about a good ECHL market – the games draw serious fans, and are a blast to go to. They’ll have no problem getting Thrashers fans out there. The only problem I have with them is because it takes me so long in the horrible traffic here to get out there.

Thrashing the Blues - No, I'm not re-naming it.

BTW, that link makes me want to find Gearon and punch him in the throat.

So the 2011 Cardinals now have a pet tortoise and a rodent to rally around.

That sound you hear is Tony La Russa’s animal-loving orgasm.

I thought it was him stumbling drunk around the clubhouse getting to his car?

What, too soon?

He's a better player than Sean Avery.

Hopefully Torts makes that clear in the press release.

Brad Marchand pops the cherry on 2011-12 goal scoring...

… with an unassisted PPG (?!!?) at 9:42 of the first period of BOS-PHI.

Leafs survive Montreal's surge in the first period...

… then Matthew Lombardi pumps in a shorty to give Toronto’s Favorite Team a 1-0 lead over Montreal’s Favorite Team.

Carey Price apparently skated off the ice a minute early...

… as the Flyers scored twice to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

by BleedBlue42 on Oct 6, 2011 7:19 PM CDT up reply actions

Flyers first goal came off the stick of Giroux...

… with assists going to Puffnuts and Cap’n Happy. (There’s a combination I never thought I’d see on a scoring sheet.)

Scratch Price, insert Thomas.

Hard to read one box score while listening to a different game. Oops.

Reimer stops a 6-on-4 flurry at the end of the 3rd...

… sealing his first shutout of the season. Leafs are 1-0, will announce the Cup parade route tomorrow.

Looking to the right side of the page

I see a headline that says “Penguins Vs. Canucks: Vancouver Hosts Final Game of NHL Opening Night”

Is it wrong that I expect parenthesis accompanying that headline making it read like this?

“Penguins Vs. Canucks: Vancouver Hosts Final Game of NHL Opening Night (Riots Ensue)”

Those who hammer their guns into plows will plow for those who do not. - Thomas Jefferson

Vancouver appears to be intent on putting those riots behind them.

I’m assuming they’ve decided internally to just tank the season and miss the playoffs entirely, thus eliminating the possibility of more riots. That’s the only real explanation for Luongo allowing Matt Cooke to score two goals in one game.
