Monday Links: Backhanded BJs Edition
I wonder what that's like...
Blues News
- Blues do what they need to do: beat shitty teams. [SBN STL]
- T.J. got fancy and Backes got nasty in yesterday's win. [P-D]
- Backes took first star honors at Puck Father last night. Bask in it. [Puck Daddy]
- Halak will be starting Tuesday against the Capitals. I hope he likes Christmas trees, because he might get lit up like one. Buuuuut... if he comes out with a win, we might see a whole new Jaro. You never know with how the Capitals are playing lately. [P-D]
- I'm only linking this article because I think this person is an idiot. Not only does he say that Arnott and the Blues are having a terrible year thus far, but he cited Bleacher Report to top it all off. Suck less, Larry Seely. [Gather]
NHL/Hockey News
- Other scores and stories from last night. [USA Today]
- Your daily Crosby suck-off article. [NHL]
- The Capitals are supposed to be good. They're loaded with star-power and complemented with the right players. Why are they losing? [The Cheap Seats]
- Bruce Boudreau might be out as coach and a few Capitals might be traded as a result of this quarter-season funk. [Washington Post]
- Kari Lehtonen, the Stars stud goalie who has been studly, is on the IR. [NHL]
- What's going to happen this season? Nobody seems to know. [The National]
- While most are looking to the future, Gary Bettman sits in his large, spikey chair stroking his cat and enjoying how well the NHL has done thus far this season. Next time, Gadget. Next time. [Standard-Examiner]
- Kevin Dineen is an early front-runner for the Jack Adams award. [Sun-Sentinel]
- Former BJ and all-around chode Nikita Filatov is enjoying his second chance in Ottawa. [Canada.com]
- The Winnipeg faithful are starving for some hockey, as their Jets have played 15 of their first 23 on the road. [CANOE]
- The NHL has always neglected the Western Conference when it comes to national TV exposure and marketing and this guy is tired of it. I've always agreed, especially with basketball currently absent. If you want to snag new fans (like here in Laker-less L.A.), market the West. [Denver Post]
- Former NHL linesman Pat Dapuzzo still struggles with head injuries that he suffered in 2008. Great read. [NY Times]

That Gather Article
You really trust this guy’s opinion coming from a site which looks like it’s trying it’s damnest to be TMZ?
Baltimore Blast - 6-time MISL/NISL Champions
Let's go Blues!
WTF is Gather?
Ahhh, tacky upstart websites.
Thrashing the Blues - No, I'm not re-naming it.
SB Nation St. Louis
St. Louis Game Time - We turn the F bomb into an art form.
Reporter: There`s a "stamp out the Beatles movement" underway in Detroit. What are you going to do about it?
Paul McCartney: We`re going to start a campaign to stamp out Detroit.
Hack.
This guy makes Joe Strauss look more than viable.
Fight Club writer for the print edition of St. Louis Game Time . . . I need another beer.
The Throwdown Lowdown Report, only on The Bluenote Zone.
And I can also write things in 140 characters or fewer.
wrong
he is as bad as Joe Strauss, meaning both are so pitted in the anus’ of the devil that they suck and are asshats
going through the handshake line at my game the other night, guy says youre still a prick Evan...me: yep sure am next time stop me from scoring
Pudge the Wonder Coach is gone.
I wonder how the Caps’ll respond to Hunter on Tuesday. I wish we could have gotten BB instead.

I was just getting ready to add this
So will Hunter teach his players to cheap shot a guy after scoring a game winner in OT?

THAT one took way too long.
I honestly thought that was going to happen two weeks ago.

Me too.
Be curious to see how it goes though. Hopefully Ovi and Semin are such head cases that they can’t get out of their funk. That being said, Jaro was the one who knocked them out of the playoffs so it will be interesting to see.

Tuesday
So does Halak get lit up for real Tuesday? Washington is going to win because of the new coach kick, and then this is going to start the whole goalie nonsense up again…

Randy Carlyle and Scott Arniel HAVE to be sitting by the phone, shotgun in hand . . . ready to shoot the fucking thing if it rings.
Fight Club writer for the print edition of St. Louis Game Time . . . I need another beer.

Arniel may have weathered the storm, thanks to Curtis Sanford.
The Beejays are playing a lot better than they were at the start of the season.
The Ducks, on the other hand, have fallen into the abyss. They’re one point ahead of Columbus in the Western Conference basement. Anaheim doesn’t play till Wednesday; it wouldn’t surprise me to see Carlyle complete the trifecta before then.

In other news that Gather article is ridiculous
I don’t think the guy knows who the Blues are.

I couldn't resist the siren song of cheaper tickets...
So I picked up two tickets to the game vs. the Blackhawks on March 6. Playoffs-bound or not, I’m going to be there.

sbn bjs (the canon)
do a post game scoring chance review
kind of interesting
final line:
Some of the H2H results are a bit weird because of Hitch actively shuffling his lines during the game, but you get the general idea – including the fact that the top line really needs to be kept away from David Backes!
hmm isnt this like the third sbn oppenent in a row that has praised backes?!?

and the pointless meatball surgery stat of the day
17 minutes of power play = 1 goal for the blues
a few comparisons
20th best (wild) need 14:15 ish
15th best (caps) 9:40
10th (sabres) 8:11
5th (flyers) 9:12
1st (nucks) 5:44

wow we have an anemic power play thanks to bergland and stewart being MIA majority of the time on the ice.
stewart definitely
berglund has been lackluster at times too, but he’s also had some bad luck lately too.
I think offensively, the Blues need McDonald and Perron back, badly. You just think about what a huge difference it would make, in terms of shifting some subset of Langenbrunner, Arnott, and/or Sobotka back to a 4th line role.
Haven’t heard much about Andy though… Two concussions in 10 months, yikes.

Dunno if anyone else saw this Crombeen update (http://lkorac10.blogspot.com/)
Crombeen, who was wearing the no-contact red jersey Saturday, has been skating on his own for about a week now. He can stick-handle, shoot and perform other aspects of the game, but doesn’t expect to be cleared for contact for some time. He’s been out with a fractured clavicle suffered during the Blues’ final preseason game Oct. 1.
Also, he reported that Vodka has a face fracture :( what shit luck
