Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

Via PuckDaddy, after being waived by Cal and Gary and not being claimed, the REAL #22 is hanging up the skates. Wish him the best. I loved him as a Blue. Class act all the way.

Best wishes to Craig Conroy.

By all accounts an honest-to-goodness good guy of the NHL. Glad he’s joining Cal/Gary’s front office.

St. Louis Game Time . . . I need another beer.

My favorite Blue

I bought a Conroy jersey the same season he got traded. I was in high school. My friends told me during study hall that he was traded for Stillman. I thought they were fucking with me as I had purchased the jersey about two weeks before that awful day. I was pissed at the Blues, but of course, continued rooting for them, and Conroy everywhere he went since then. I thought he was the best penalty killer in Blues history (although I know people will disagree with me heavily on that one). He was the most personable player to play the game of hockey. Every game he talked, he sounded like a kid getting to play in the first game of peewee hockey. This guy loved hockey. Was an ambassador to the game. The NHL looks to Syd and Ovech to be the face of the game, but I say they are overlooking the best face in hockey. So to my favorite Blue, congrats on a great career, excellent service to communities wherever you played, and being a cool dude overall. The hockey world would do well to model itself after such a player.

Agreed. Stillman played great for the Blues, but I loved Conroy for what he seemed to bring to the locker room. He was always more than courteous to us fans. I’ll miss seeing Conroy on the ice. The NHL should put him to work, they could use a good guy like him in the public eye.
