Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

Wednesday Links: Alex Burrows edition

Score a series winning goal against the Hawks and suddenly you're loved by a regionally semi-famous hockey blog in St. Louis. Yep, that's apparently how it works.

Blues News:

  • The Blues players are helping the storm relief efforts by kicking in $10,000 to match the same amount donated by the 14 fund. Clearly, two economic experts in the comments wanted more to be given. [CBSSports]

NHL News:

  • Nothing's posted as of 12:30 when I wrote this, but there'll be something up recapping one goddamn intense game 7 in Vancouver. [Nucks Misconduct]
  • The end of the Sabres' season went a lot similar to Sergeant Hulka during basic training: BLOWN UP, SIR! [Puck Daddy]
  • Also BLOWN UP was Montreal's Jaroslav Spacek, courtesy of Milan Lucic who was ejected and may face supplemental discipline. Oh, another game 7 was forced. Go figure. [Stanley Cup of Chowder]
  • Avert your eyes, visting Leafs fans. Kerry Fraser answers some questions about the game, the rules, and the non-call on Gretzky. [TSN]
  • I don't know how this came to be, but maybe somebody figured that since the Canucks hadn't shown the ability to play with a lead, why not have them play from behind? [Globe and Mail]
  • The Masterton Trophy noms are out. Anybody else think Ray Emery is a lock for this one? [TSN]
  • Something something something Coyotes sale something. At this point, it feels like the process has been ongoing for approximately 14 yeasrs. [TSN]
  • Time to put a bow on round 1. Tampa/Pitt follows Montreal/Boston tonight. [TSN]

Other Stuff:

  • Sean Connery: The Musical. Why hasn't this happened already? [Gorilla Mask]
  • Now presenting "Great Moments in Drunk" [TruTV]
  • Leave it to humanity to stick with bad ideas just...just because, dammit. [Cracked]

Video:

This will win the Academy Award for Best Movie Ever Made. Just sayin'

And thanks to an e-mail submission, GT can now enjoy 4 (million) times the steak.

I don't think they have much choice.

Hell, I might even forgive Shoulder Joe if he somehow manages to go Nick Kypreos on Jimmy Howard.

I sent in the quad steak video.

It was just inspired by the constant mentions of the ad in the GDTs.

Kudos to you

Didn’t see a screen name and hadn’t opened e-mails in some time.

Two things:

1. Fan ta the assholes who kvetched about the amount of money the Blues donated to the tornado relief efforts. In the first place, fucksticks, it’s the thought that counts, and in the second place, what do you care how much someone else gave?

2. Fan ta the assholes in the comments about the Phoenix Coyotes’ sale. These jackwagons have never heard of the original Phoenix Roadrunners, obviously, and piss on the Canadian chauvinist attitude that you can put an NHL team in Nunavut or any other Canadian market and have them be an instant success. I’m seeing the team in Canada’s own national capital not doing very well, at the gate or on the ice.

Yeah

Seems to me they had a franchise in Winnipeg that didn’t pan out so well….

I’m going to be scrambling to find a tv to see the games tonight. It should be wild. I’m going Boston and Tampa.

I agree

with bullet point numero uno. Looking into it, the Cardinals players donated only slightly more than the Blues at $30K, so I don’t really see what those two commenters major beef was. I mean, all said and done, that’s $20K the relief effort didn’t have, and now they do.

look...

it was a MATCH

anyone bitchin at the 14 fund?

thought not.

this is why all donations should be done without publicity. wanna raise money, do it and advertise. what to donate? why should anyone else know. seriously. why should anyone else know

Dude...

I’m not bitchin’ about anything. I think it’s cool that pro sports teams donate back to their communities, no matter the amount. I’m just backin’ up what TB said. Ungrateful buggers being ungrateful is ridiculous.

The folk who commented on the original article forgot the “donation” part, meaning you know…nobody was obligated to give anything, but the sports teams in St. Louis wanted to do so.

And to clarify my original post

I was only trying to point out that if the displeased commenters were comparing the Blues donations to other STL sports teams, their discontent was unfounded, as the Blues were right on par with the other major STL sports clubs in terms of donation.

i know it was

more a reply to the ongoing conversation about bitching which you again mentioned i didnt mean to suggest that by adding a point below yours you were bitching, just adding to the point abojut the generic wat b up with all da bitchin

but still, how does anyone win by saying they donated x amount?: how much did the rams donate:) whatever it is it aint enough!! same old sorry ass rams

Haha

Alright. Keep on, keepin’ on CT…and yea, I have no idea what the Rams are doing. Stupid football. :)

I got a call from my ticket guy

The Blues looked up their fans that lived in areas affected by the storm, called them up, asked how they were, and if there was anything they could do to help. I didn’t need to take him up on this because we were extremely lucky, but I sure as hell appreciate the offer and the thought. I just say that to say that anybody that is bitching and moaning about dollar figures completely misses the point, and has no idea of all the things that Blues do around the community.

That tornado

cut right through where I grew up in St. Ann and where I went to PHS in Maryland Heights. Several friends got hit hard and lost everyth. Thankfully dad only lost part of the roof. It was my old high school hockey goalie who came to the rescue to help pop put some tarps up. Thanks a ton Billy. I just wish I was back there to lend a hand, what a mess.

If anyone wants to volunteer here’s two groups coordinating the relief.

I don’t think anybody here has serious ties to Windsor. Besides that’s a great gif. I keep wanting to do that at work actually…

Bummer

Habs out of the playoffs. Not that I necessarily like the Habs, as much as I like Mike Cammalleri and his go-go-gadget midget legs. Dude is seriously quick for such a short man.

Heck yea!

I’m a closet Bruins fan…minus the whole Bobby Orr thing. Guy was an amazing player, and I’ll never argue taking that away from him, but I hate that play.
