Wednesday Links: Give Us Some of That Internet Money Edition

Yeah, guy, the Internet makes money, buddy. Give us some of that money!

Blues News

  • Dave Checketts was able to hold off loan payments so he can have more time to sell the Blues. [Bloomberg]
  • Part-time Blues beat reporter and full-time douche Andy Strickland says that the Blues aren't in danger of having the NHL taking over their finances. Let 'em. Phoenix gets to sign people and make the playoffs. The Blues just get to swallow Shark poo. [Twitter]

NHL/Hockey News

  • Dale Tallon has threw around so much money this offseason to make the Florida Panthers relevant again. Some would say he made them dangerous and some would say he overpaid for the services of people like Tomas Fleischmann and Scott Upshall. At least he signed people I've heard of. [Miami Herald]
  • The Capitals also cleaned house and made a lot of moves. Their inexpensive acquisition of Tomas Vokoun and continued play from young Michael Neuvirth could be the best tandem in the NHL. [NHL]
  • Another big deal that nobody saw coming: Tomas Kaberle signed a three-year deal with Carolina. Joe Corvo also went to Boston for a fourth-round pick (that's all?!). [NHL]
  • Columbus actually signed people this offseason, so they'll probably be good. They think so, too, because they just gave James Wisniewski a $33-million deal. [O&E]
  • Keith Yandle will be back in Phoenix for the next 5 years. [Fox]
  • A quick overview of yesterday's signings as the arbitration deadline nears. [Too Many Men on the Site]
  • NHL, Seattle, bleh. [The Seattle Times]
  • Ty Conklin will more than likely be returning to Detroit. [The Detroit Sports Site]
  • Here's who's left to sign in Free Agency. Will the Blues sign any of them? Ha ha... (no). Apparently, yes. Two of them, in fact. [Globe and Mail]
  • South Korea will make their Olympic debut in 2018 because they will be hosting the Winter Olympics that year. [Puck Daddy]

Other Stuff

  • Super Mario Earth. [Imgur]
  • I remember when many people went "LOL LANCE BERKMAN" when the Cardinals signed him. Now he leads the league in home runs and is starting the All-Star game. This home run yesterday was awesome. [MLB]
  • It's like "Tangled," but real! [CNN]

Langenbrunner and Arnott are now Blues

What a coup…not what they were 10 years ago, but added depth and leadership. Something we have lacked for a while

''It's not personal, Sonny... it's strictly business...''

But there are few things that make me happier than to see a Negative Nancy be dead-friggin’-wrong when wringing their hands and wailing about the Blues.

Here’s who’s left to sign in Free Agency. Will the Blues sign any of them? Ha ha… (no).

All the “Blues management is dropping the ball, aren’t trying to improve, have signed nothing but pieces of shit” talk on this site in the last few days has — in MY OPINION — come dangerously close to moving this site into Asylum territory in the eyes of anyone who hasn’t been associated with this site for a while.

Think about it… if you were new to “Game TIme,” and your only other experience with Blues’ message boards had been to drop in on the cesspools at STLToday or the Blues’ own website, you’d come away thinking that “Game Time” was no different, based on all the doom-and-gloom and disparagement of management that’s been posted here lately.

I completely understand that we here at “Game Time” are fiercely independent, and that we actively strive to avoid any implication or impression that we might even be thinking about kissing management’s ass, but — again, in MY OPINION — some of us have gone a little overboard inb the last couple of days.

Hopefully, the signing of proven veteran leaders like Langenbrunner and Arnott will finally convince the skeptics that the Blues really are trying to make this team better, and that they’re willing to spend money reasonably in order to do that.

I would fully embrace a Langenbrunner/Arnott signing.

It hasn’t happened yet, so I’m in Brad’s camp.

It totally did happen.

In your defense, you did bring up Unfrozen Caveman Ballplayer, Lance Berkman and his incredibly reasonable – and as such derided – signing in the offseason.

Oh shit, it DID happen.

http://aol.sportingnews.com/nhl/story/2011-07-06/report-jamie-langenbrunner-st-louis-blues-agree-on-one-year-deal

It was first reported at Strickland’s site, so I didn’t see it for obvious reasons.

As I said, nothing personal intended to you, Number One, or anyone else...

I’m just really, truly tired of seeing our site look like we’re following the douchebags at STLToday down the goddamn rabbit hole.

MOST teams aren't up to a whole hell of a lot.

And those teams that ARE making deals are often grossly overpaying players. Toronto is remarkably quiet even though their team has been mostly in a holding pattern – like the Blues.

Probably helped that Brian Burke played the political card and visited troops on Canada Day.

Totally Agree with you B!

Sure the Blues haven’t done too much, but I remember they didn’t do too much last year either. And before you go off and say “well, look what happened” blah blah blah…could ANYONE predict that over the course of the season they would have had the majority of their tops lineS out with freak injuries? No. Everyone was happier than a pig in slop when we came tearing out of the gate…imagine what would have happened if we stayed healthy. Sure bumps and bruises are going to happen, but I have to think that last year and its insane spite from the hockey gods had to be a fluke deal.

I like bringing new people to this site, and I agree with B that if we’re all constantly sitting around bitching and moaning about the team, newbies may not be so inclined to stick around.

Regardless, looks like we did something today. It seems that newcomers to the Blues have pretty good results (see: Steen, Cola, Shattenkirk, Stewart…etc) so if the trend continues, Langenbrunner & Arnott could give us that much needed kick in the ass!
