Chris Stewart and Paul Stastny teaming up as groomsmen. They'd look good together in matching Bluenotes, too, wouldn't they?

Ironically, it's too bad
The Blues don’t have another under-performing 1st overall with a bum knee to trade to the Avs… you know, since they seem to like those so much.

In that case, Army needs to broker a three-way trade with the Islanders.
The Isle sends DiPietro to the Avs, who ship Stastny to the Blues, who send a blu-ray copy of Up to Charles Wang’s grandkid for his birthday.

Disney should have sent him a case of those...
… since he’s the #2 character in the movie. Maybe #3 after Doug.

would have could have should have had
Paul Stastny but Jarmo took the infamous Scott Jackson in round 2 of the 2005 draft that produced Oshie, and Bishop. It could have ranked up there with the 1976 Blues draft that saw the Blues draft Federko, Brian Sutter & Mike Liut.

Give it a rest, already...
Everyone passed on Stastny at least once. The Blues are not unique in their failure to draft him, but some folks seem to think that the Blues drafting in a vacuum in 2005…

It's the same thing with the Royals and Albert Pujols
Sure every team passed on his 12 times, but it’s the Royals who get the most crap for passing on a kid in their backyard.
And bringing it up over and over benefits who, exactly?
No one has a perfect draft.
Yes, Jarmo Kekalainen and the Blues missed an opportunity by failing to draft Stastny. Yes, they picked the wrong guy in Scott Jackson. Is that what you all wanted to hear? I’ll gladly shout it from the top of the Arch if people will finally just let it drop…
One of my favorite bands wrote a song about this back before most of you were even born…

I'm with you, but I don't think it needed to be said
And even if everyone passed on him, He’s a St. Louis product, with a Blues alumnus Father. Had to at least look at him a bit more.
No use holding onto that past, though. No one’s saying he won’t be wearing the note sometime

''No one’s saying he won’t be wearing the note sometime...''
Oh, but you forget… he’s not wearing the ’Note right now, so the Blues are forever tainted with irredeemable draft failure.
And how do you know — I mean really know — how much the Blues “looked at him?”
Just because they didn’t draft him doesn’t mean they weren’t interested in doing so. Maybe they expected him to fall to the next round because of some correctable flaw, a skating deficiency or something.
For as good as Stastny has proven to be, he’s still not a point-per-game player in the NHL. One would expect that to be the minimum standard for assertation of legendary, “should-not-have-passed-on-him” status, would one not?
I’d love to see Paul Stastny in the ‘Note as much as anyone, but the world won’t stop turning if it never happens, nor will the Blues be doomed to eternal mediocrity if Stastny never ends up here. If he grew up in St. Petersburg instead of St. Louis, no one here would give two hoots in Hell beyond the natural interest in a decent player.
