Thursday Links: Crackin' In Orlando Edition
One of the positives that comes from the preseason is that I actually have new photos to choose from now. I was running out of options down the stretch there.
Blues News
- Blues beat Tampa again 4-3. Adam Cracknell with your game winner. [AP]
- The game from Tampa's end. [Raw Charge]
- The scene in Orlando. [Florida Today]
- As you've probably heard and read by now, Dave Checketts hates money. [P-D]
- The Blues face the Wild tonight at DrinkScotch. Who's going? [Blues]
NHL/Hockey News
- Mike Modano retired yesterday. Brett Hull noted that he is the greatest U.S. player of all time. True story. [ESPN]
- Sure, Mike Modano has a lot of memories, highlight reel goals and a Stanley Cup, but nothing beats this moment. [Puck Daddy]
- Winnipeg will be hosting the NHL's "Face-Off Festival" to commemorate the start of the season and the league's return to the city. [NHL]
- No surprise: Mark Streit is the 13th captain of the Islanders. [SF Chronicle]
- One of the longest tenured GMs in the NHL, Jim Rutherford, has been extended with Carolina for another 4 years. [LA Times]
- Jody Shelly's hit last night will more than likely test the new judgment of NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan. [Puck Daddy]
- With re-alignment looming, many teams are lobbying to join the Eastern Conference. Well, this writer here says that only Winnipeg should move West and only one team should move East. Do you agree? [Vancouver Sun]

Let's go Blues!
That vignette left an impression on me as a kid.
So much, that I used to bat pucks out of the air like that in warm-ups. No joke. Brad will verify.
Sporting interests drove me into my career.
"Play tetherball with a young Portuguese child."
Actually I’d rather be social networking. Portuguese people scare me with their “Soccer” and “Pyrenees Mountains” and shit.
Fight Club writer for the print edition of St. Louis Game Time . . . I need another beer.
The Throwdown Lowdown Report, only on The Bluenote Zone.
And I can also write things in 140 characters or fewer.
I don't think you have to worry about the Pyrenees.
The French and Spanish built the Pyrenees Mountains in 1736 to keep the nation of Andorra from conquering the known world. Portugal is on the other side of Spain so they cannot join forces with Andorra and tear through Europe in a combined Portugese-Andooran juggernaut of death and destruction.

I learned this information from the Celebrated Dr. Fraudulent.
You can’t argue with him. He’s a Doctor, and he’s celebrated. CELEBRATED I tell you!

What I love about the story about the turned down offer
is that it’s all hearsay on the part of the group turned down. His line is “We think that’s the most they have been offered” How the hell would they know. If it was turned down it was turned down for a reason. The fact that they released this story to the press while leaving their offer on the table means they are hoping for an outcry and pressure to accept it. It’s all gamesmanship.
No one knows why, but second only to eating the brains of the living, the dead love affordable pre-fab furniture.
