I hope Langenbrunner's the assistant captain in charge of the kleenex box.

welp

considering captain america is kind of the consensus pick even amougst fans, if there is a lack of leadership on the team we will have to be blaming ourselves as well. perhaps we should be careful what we wih for. perhaps not.

are the blues patching 38 this season? i want a 38 patch

They better.

I honest to God would be shocked if they didn’t.

I can't imagine that he won't take the role seriously

But then again, I say this as a fan who has nothing to base this on except for interviews and demeanor.

im convinced

brewer took the role seriously, didn’t mean there were not leadership questions (legit or otherwize).

now with backes, the fan and team annointed captain. the draft pick groomed for the job, the team that drafts character over skill, one would hope there will be no mutterings about leadership.

BUT…

if there is…. then what?

There will be some folks out there who will question his leadership on day 1.

And that will be because he didn’t win the Stanley Cup at the first pre-season game. There will also be people who say “Backes is the best captain the team has ever had” even if we go 0-82-0. (The second category will likely be much smaller if the team tanks like that.) I think a lot of Brewer’s criticism came from being injured and being Not Chris Pronger long after Pronger was gone from the Blues. A lot of newer fans don’t have the hate for Brewer being Not Chris Pronger.

We won’t know the answer to “Is David Backes a good captain for the Blues?” until this season’s over. Even at the halfway point of the season, there’s still plenty of time to nosedive or run roughshod into the playoffs.

Let's Go Blues!
