Dear Blues Fans

[Promoted FanPost]

Dear Blues fans,

I, like you, am simply beside myself at how well the Blues are playing. The Blues are playing smart, hard, thorough, competitive hockey - for a full 60 minutes no less! This is what we've been dreaming of for years. All those crappy teams put on the ice, all those blown 3rd periods leads, all those half-assed, undisciplined games in the past we had to endure make us appreciate how good our team is right now.

When was the last time we've been this good? It's been a long, long time. But we have been here before. So let's act like it. Let's keep it professional, leave the smack talk at the door. Let's get the reputation as "fans of the team that just kicked my team's ass but didn't rub it in."

Of course, you can still cheer for your team. You can still revel in our opponents' losses. You can still boo the other team at a game for whatever the hell you think they deserve. After getting so much grief from just about every NHL team's fan-base, sure, we are more than allowed to get our digs in now.

But after watching the game tonight against Montreal, I must say I was simply astounded and immensely proud to be a hockey fan. The standing ovation the Montreal fans gave Halak after the game gave me goosebumps.

I say we take a page from Montreal's Book of Class.

Signed,

A Loyal Blues Fan

I was a real pleasure to stand and cheer Jaro

I am a Montrealer and I can’t think of a single Habs fan who has forgotten Jaro and the crazy cup run he gave us in 2010. Let’s face it: we had a decent team during that year, but without Jaro to make 40 saves per game night after night during these critical weeks of spring 2010, the Habs would have never pull out the miracle of beating some the league’s best offensive powerhouses (Caps and Pens), leading the Habs to the conference finals for the first time in 17 years. Nobody has also forgotten how stunned (and angered) we were when the Habs traded him.

May you win the Cup once, brother Halak. You deserve it !

Second

I second Mars’ recommendation, I to was impressed at the Montreal fans support of Halak at the end of the game. I began watching hockey in St Louis and have always been a Blues fan since, but grew up most of my life in New England or in recent years across the country with the Army. I have been to enough games wearing a Blues jersey when the Blues were the visiting team and most of the time I felt I had to cover my jersey outside the arena cause I have seen home team fans verbally and sometime physically assault other Blues fans. Of course watching most games in the East the Blues did win those games, but that is still no way for fans to act cause it gives the whole sport a bad rep. Take for example the Vancouver Riots last year after the Canucks lost to the Bruins in Game 7. With that being said, there can still be the occasional ribbing of other team fans as long as you know not to cross the line where it can become a risk to all the fans who are just there to watch their team. So, Go Blues!!!

Third

However, we must not be too smug. Keep in mind, there are plenty of these assholes in every city. Don’t knock the inexperienced simply to justify your “fan-ship”… there is always room at Game Time for real, honest fans- what would ‘The Professor’ think if we shunned away those honestly invested in their newfound sportsteam. (because dey has de money) Bandwagoners and ignorant assholes shouldn’t ever be welcome. Regardless of tenure.

There are only 2 Fanbases I have extreme distain for (NHL Wise)...Chicago & Detroit...and those are from bad experiences

I will always hate those teams for that reason, that will never change. Otherwise, I hold not other hatred in my heart. (Except for LSU, Bama, Georgia, MIssissppi State, Arkansas, Cincinnati Reds, Boston Red Sox, NY Yankees, AL West (with exception of Oakland), and Pac 12 football)

You must be from Florida, I have to say you should hate those teams, and 'Bama and modern Soc fans are douchey (per-2004 ones were cool)

But LSU fans, while you should dislike the team, are like the coolest people on planet Earth. Seriously it’s like they think any visiting fan is a guest in thier house and they should be treated as such. They are awesome.

we hate LSU with a passion, stems from ’59 and the Billy Cannon Run. And Ole MIss fans are 50 billion times better than LSU fans.

Oh that's cool. I assumed Florida because hating other SEC teams and Sox/Yanks made me assume TB Rays and an SEC team fan do I guess Floridian, my bad

Anyway I only even knew about LSU fans in the first place because a bunch of them had to move up here to St Louis for a while after Katrina. Awesome people. I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Ole Miss fans yet but I’m always up for friendly people. Of course I’m a Packers fan so I may not be able to stop making fun of Eli, hopefully especially after this weekend

LoL

you don’t have to be a TB Rays fan to hate the Yankees and Red Sox. Besides, judging by the fan attendance at the ALDS last October there probably aren’t a whole lot of Rays fans in period.

I hate all the teams he listed as well (but I’ll include Oakland) and I’m from KC…

The name of that song played at KC Comets games in the '80's was Giorgio Moroder's "The Chase." Now you know.

by labbadabba on Jan 11, 2012 8:52 AM CST up reply actions

Oh sweet! Hooray Missourians! I actually used to like the Cheifs and they were the one team I didn't mind the Packers losing to this year

But my buddy hates Tim Tebow more than anyone on God’s green earth so I’ve enjoyed Tebow succeeding so I can tax the hell out of him. The only thing I ever haven’t liked about KC (I was born after the ‘85 WS so no Ill will there) is that Missouri is the best barbecue state in the country and only half the state gets credit. Don’t get me wrong dry rubbed smoked Memphis style barbecue is great (especially for beef brisket) and you get to have some around here even with Pappy’s which is amazing. But KC’s style of add sauce while you cook, like the entire time, just keep adding sweet thick sauce is amazing, and our style of pork steaks, cooked dry then absolutely doused with Maull’s is delicious and completely under appreciated. We are called the “Show Me State”, you wouldn’t be wrong if you called us the river state or the shitty roads state, but while other place may smoke better, when it comes down to it, we are truly the grilling state

I don't know, taxing the hell out of people is worse than razzing them.

Then again, I live in Illinois, where you get taxed for the “privilege” of being razzed. They say it’s for the schools and the children but I have my doubts.

Let's Go Blues!

I went to a wings vs. blues game at the Joe

Cheering for the blues while a good friend of mine cheered for the wings. People threw used napkins and bits of hot dogs at me. People swore at me and shoved me on the way to the bathrooms.

I don’t know if it’s like that for visitors at any other arena.

That standing O was pure class!

I’ve said before that the whole francophonic coach issue some Habs fans are very vocal about made me really dislike Montreal fans, but after last night, I can’t help but be really appreciative. While I still find that whole debate perplexing, I officially take back everything I’ve ever said about disliking the whole fanbase!

It should be easy to apply such class and appreciation to Blues hockey, though, since during the summer, Cardinals baseball fans do standing ovations for former players like Canadiens fans do pre-game ceremonies!

Merci pour…vous…class… (That’s about all I remember from high school French.)

I think if you look at the GDT

You will see most everyone here deeply appreciated the Montreal fans love for Jaro after the game. That won’t change.

The problem wont be with us, it will be with all the fuckin’ bandwagon jumpers who will be hitting places like this hard in the not too distant future.

Only thing I don't agree on here

Is

I say we take a page from Montreal’s Book of Class.
Half the rink was empty to give Halak the standing O. Though that’s one of the most classy thing’s I’ve seen this year, booing your own team however is not. I’d rather not live to see the day my hometown’s team is boo-ed off the ice after a period. That was just terrible.

You weren't around for the Oilers game a couple years ago, were you?

Up 4-0 with about a minute left in the 2nd, we gave up one before intermission. Then proceeded to give up another 5 in the 3rd without so much as a wimper of effort to lose 6-4. It was utterly embarrassing. The team was loudly and emphatically booed off the ice.

I’m ok with booing your team, but they better really deserve it.

Agreed...

I’ve booed them a few times as well.. RARE. but only when they really deserved it.. That was one of the times…yikes…

I clearly drank enough to blur that memory after that.

all I remember exactly was it felt like just lost 15-0 to the Blackhawks. Not. Pretty.

I haven't got to watch much Blues hockey

Until this year I’ve been stuck on 2nd shift duties, I’ve missed almost every game the past couple seasons which really sucked even if they weren’t in the playoffs. I love being around hockey period. I just don’t agree with fans booing their own team, if you don’t like it leave, or just don’t show up. I was really taught not to boo, so I don’t, nor do I agree with it. To each their own.

I think every team has an obligation

to put on a competitive team and if it gets to that point the players need to hear fan disappointment if things, if it doesnt change them then the players obviously dont care.

going through the handshake line at my game the other night, guy says youre still a prick Evan...me: yep sure am next time stop me from scoring

i think the official rules

state that we do need to sign a pact, and if i recall, it shall be in blood. blue blood. but i guess that goes without saying.

i kinda feel like i overstepped my bounds with this fanpost. i wasn’t trying to call anybody out. i guess that standing O for Jaro really got to me.
