Tarasenko traded (in Russia), Lehtera out for season w/ broken leg.
The one-two punch of Blues' prospects formerly skating for Sibir Novosibirsk in the KHL has been broken up.
Center Jori Lehtera (65th overall, 2008) will miss the rest of this season after suffering a broken leg, as reported by the "Elite Prospects.com" website, and the website for KHL club SKA St. Petersburg confirms that 2010 first-rounder (16th overall) Vladimir Tarasenko has been dealt to SKA from Sibir. Sibir received undrafted 23-year-old forward Vyacheslav Solodukhin (6’ 2, 190), who had been starring for the St. Petersburg entry in the Russian second league, in exchange.
In a separate trade, Sibir also acquired former Blues' draft pick Viktor Alexandrov (83rd overall, 2004) from Amur Khabarovsk. In 385 games with Russian Superleague and KHL clubs over the last ten seasons, Alexandrov has a 60-90-150 scoring line.

You had me for a sec.
I thought the Blues traded his rights. Anywho, now that he’s not playing for his home town does this ensure that we have better odds of him coming over next season?

That is a mixed bag.
If Tarasenko plays well for SKA SP, they are a team with boatloads of money and could offer him much more than the NHL CBA allows the Blues to pay an entry-level contract.
However, there is the factor of him moving away from home, as you mentioned.
I personally think it’s troubling, but it’s six in one, half-dozen in the other. So I’ll just keep drinking my beer in the corner and hoping he’ll be here in 2012-13.

Where is Tank's dad coaching these days?
I remember Sibir firing him, but nothing more recent.
...ummm...Hitch could always use another assistant
If that’ll help get him over here faster. As long as it’s not Colby and Tony Rasmus kind if relationship, that is.

Not sure, actually.
Though I did see news where Tarasenko’s rights get sent back to Sibir following the season. This is a clusterfuck.

If I had written it deliberately to mislead you, you might be justified in saying that...
…but I didn’t.
Trust me, if the Blues had traded Tarasenko’s NHL rights, the headline would have been a damn sight clearer, and the article would have been a damn sight longer…

nice press photo, Russia.
Is this in some guy’s living room before they all head out for dinner?
Get this kid over here and let the Blues show him what it’s like to be in the real pro league. Then add in all the Blues faithful fawning all over him and he’ll be sold.
Plus, our airplanes work better.
Come on, kid. Come on.
it looks like
two cops about to “trade” him…in PRISON!
why thank you officier reacharound i will hold up this hostage jersey of my current team so people can see the photo is recent

Guy on left is...
…Vice President of SKA Marketing and Business Development, Roman Rotenberg.
The other guy is Russian hockey legend (and ex-Blue for eight games in 1993-94) Alexei Kasatonov.

This trade also
I’ve heard is a rental, he’ll be going back to Sibir after the season ends.

If so, he'll have to sign a new conbtract, because this one expires after this season...

free agent I believe. I predict an 80/20 he's coming to the states, but does he want to play in the best league or is he going to Pujols it and go for the money

He is NOT a free agent where the NHL is concerned...
The Blues own his NHL rights, and since he’s a Russian, they own his NHL rights in perpetuity until he signs here or they decide to trade his rights.
“Going for the money” isn;t a possibility for Tarasenko because he will be subject to the CBA regarding entry-level contracts when he signs his first deal; neither the Blues nor anyone else can pay him more than “X” amount on an entry-level contract, and performance bonuses are limited by the terms of the CBA as well.
There’s no way the Blues will not offer Tarasenko the max allowable, in salary and bonuses, under the CBA.

I don't think Sibir can afford to give him that kind of contract...
..and unless he develops an attachment to SKA like he had with Sibir, I’m still going by his statements upon being drafted that he wants to play in the NHL.
I’ve got to believe that Doug Armstrong is smart enough and savvy enough to not have traded up to draft this kid in the first place if he wasn’t convinced that he could get him over here despite whatever blandishments the KHL might throw at him.
And before anyone starts talking about the Blues’ history with Europeans, keep in mind that it wasn’t Armstrong that drafted any of those other guys; Armstrong proved in Dallas that he can get Europeans to cross the pond and stay here.
Maybe — maybe — Dallas’ rep as a more, uh, cosmopolitan city than St. Louis might have something to do with that, but based on his other moves, bother her and in Dallas, I’m thinking Armstrong has the smarts to do his homework and find guys who are more interested in playing hockey than in partying or in hitting on the Cowboys’ cheerleaders…

Not trying to be a Debbie Downer.
What I meant to say was, his rights are going back to Sibir after the season is over. The fact that it’s only a rental deal is a good sign I think. On another note, I’m staying up to watch the SKA game tonight. It’ll be on around 2-3am tonight, should be 2am(MSK time +3 GMT.) If anyone wants to join me and maybe make a thread if there’s enough people willing to stay up.
