New Look for Blues Lines
Good time to be a blues fan itnit? The points are saying we are one of the top teams in hockey. The best part is were looking to be even better. Steen, McDonald, and Russel, are all due to be back sooner rather then later. And I know you remeber the surge this team got when DP57 came back, then think what we could accomplish when two of our offensive leaders and another reliable d-man return.
The true test of the Notes metal will come after Jan. when we will be forced into the role of roadworriors. From then (knock on wood) you have the playoffs to think about, needless to say its gunna be a 2point war every night. I dont see the lack of playoff experience on this roster being a big problem. The blackcocks didnt have much experience when they won- However thanks to his years in St. Louis, Joe Q sure as shit had enough xp for the whole team. I have all the faith in the world in Hitch and our captain and I have no reason to think that we can't contend for the cup with the way the entire team (including ells and jaro) are playing right now. Personally I still want to see Chris Stewart be the guy he was last year, and I belive if for some reason we were struggling down the stretch that GM Armstrong wouldnt hesitate to bring in whatever we would need.
My main point after the jump..
So you got Steen, Mcdonald, and Russell all set to return on any given night. Having said that already heres my projections for the lines after all 3 return. With much respect to Scotty Nichol who plays his heart out every night.
-Sidenote- these are also the lines I play with in NHL12. Im posting this under the same name as my gamertag for Xbox live, challenges welcome
1. Perron Steen Backes
2. Stewart Berglund Oshie
3. Langs Mcdonald Arnott
4. Crombeen Sobotka D'ags
1. Jackman Pietrangelo
2. Shatty Coco
3. Russell Polak

Nah. Nichol has to be there.
Not only has he earned his place with his balls-to-the-wall play and his spicy attitude toward oppoents, but the dude is a wizard in the face-off dot. With as horrible as this team has been in that regard the last few years, that’s a vital role that can’t be kept in the press box. Unless, of course, he’s injured. That leads to another point . . .
It seems that every time someone comes back from injury (Perron, for example), someone tends to get hurt at about the same time or shortly after (in that case, Sobotka went down soon after . . . but has since returned). There are so many teams that would be just monsters if there were no injuries to their key players, but that never happens, which is why you have reserves. While it would be great if we could predict the future and tell you that everyone will be perfectly healthy down the stretch . . . that NEVER happens.
And let’s not forget about trades. The deadline is sooner than we all care to think it is (end of February? Somewhere around there.), and who knows what Army has in store for us in that regard (See: Stewart/Shattenkirk for McClement/Johnson).
Also, you left out Huskins. Dude was VERY good as a stay-at-home defenseman before his foot asplode. Who does he replace? That’s a good question. That may go trace back to the comment about trades, actually, in a roundabout way.
So, SO many unknowns here.

I think huskins
replaces Cola to be honest, and I see Cola getting traded

wouldnt shock me to see
Stewe-bergs-backes. why? stewie 5x better with backes, and berg needs SOMETHING. not suggesting it is a best line or anything, i just wouldn’t be shocked to see berg get some backes time, and hell why not tghrow stewie with bergs when it happens?
that would make a perron, steen, oshie line. which, i gotta say, wouldn’t suck.
i would really hate to see bergs drop to a 3rd center. not because he doesnt deserve a butt kick demotion or anything, more because andy is the present, maybe. bergie might be the present (if we get him going) AND the future.
And a harvest of righteousness is grown from the seed of peace planted by peacemakers.

How does anyone in their right mind split up Oshie and Perron?
Those two have wicked good chemistry on the ice. The did last year before Thornton’s attempted decapitation, and they showed it again with the highlight reel goal against Dallas.

Clipnotes version
Steen-Backes-Stewart
Perron-Berglund-Oshie
McDonald-Arnott-D’Agostini
Sobotka-Nichol-Langenbrunner
-Berglund and Stewart are on the top 6 simply to try to give us three effective scoring lines. If you just want your 6 best forwards on the top 2, bump McDonald to the wing on line 1 and Arnott to the C of line 2.
-Unlike most here, I’ve really liked Langenbrunner as a hard nosed 3rd liner that works well with Arnott. It came down to him and Dagger, who is up with Berglund as my favorite trade piece right now, and I had to go with the Dagger in that spot.
-No way do I sit Sobotka or Jamie, and Nichol’s hard work give him the edge over Crombeen and Reaves
Pietrangelo-Coliacovo
Shattenkirk-Jackman
Russell-Polak
-It’s 3 defensemen fighting for 2 spots here, with Cola, Russell, and Huskins fighting it out. Russell is our clear “3rd offensive D-Man” to me, and Cola wins out barely simply because Petro has been so hot in the same pairing as him. Still think Cola is trade bait though.
Closing thoughts: Anyone else think Berglund, Dagger, and Cola are the definition of trade bait right now? I think all 3 for a Parise or Ryan is overkill, but if we make a big trade, I think it involves those names.

PD says
the lines will look something like this with Stewie staying on the top line and D’ags dropping to 3rd or 4th.
I think Berglund is definitely on the block, I also think Langenbrunner, Cole, Cola, Crombeen, Reaves, Cracknell and Hensick could be part of package deals but I don’t know if Langs will go as the ‘Cock may have some nostalgia with him, D’ags seems to be a ‘Cock kind of player too grinding scorer/scoring grinder so I think he’s safe.
Whilst I really like Beener, Reaves and Cracknell there are dozens of guys like them in the league and their roles are interchangable. Berglund seems the obvious one but I think that will depend on the confidence in the health of Macdonald who if he comes back and stays healthy for a stretch before the deadline may find himself on the block too.
Huskins is one to ponder too, he hasn’t played for the ’Cock, is he his type of guy?
Regardless, though I don’t think we make a deal unless it is the right deal for a top line scorer and thankfully we don’t need a defenseman that we don’t need, Garth Butcher is retired and it’s not 1991.

langs
has a no trade, reaves just signed an extension, cole wont be traded unless its for a huge upgrade…Cola, Beener, bergie, dags and bish all up on chopping block at least with fans after Elliott signing 2 yr 1 way deal

Just saw the Elliot deal.
And I agree with your thought, though I question what value Crombeen has. Bishop would have more, but I don’t know how much more

crombeen has value
for the teams near the bottom of the standings, beener bish, and bergie = big return for finisher the team needs, and ever beener, bish, and dagger at this point to

Gotta disagree.
Crombeen is a solid, but not great, 4th liner. Nothing more, nothing less. He is probably a little higher thought of than he was when we got him of waivers, but he’s not going to be someone who has the value of even McRae, Ponich, or Fairchild. Maybe not even the value of. He’s very mid level.

NHL experience
trumps most, most of the time, and crombeen is a proven NHLer and proven he can put up offense and play defense, youre right though 4th liner at best, but hes a throw in to most trades
