That 73pts

in 39 games is insane. Listed at 5’11" so he’s probably closer to 5’9"
165 is probably drenched in water and frozen.
Another Andy Mac
or how about Cliff Ronning!!

3pts?

looking at the stats on his team, he’s in line with the other +guys.

On another note he’s listed on the portland site as 6’ and 173
He’s either grown or they’ve stretched the stats a bit more.

Of his 37 goals, 17 have come on the power play...

…and you know that you don’t get a plus for being on the ice when a goal is scored on the power play.

Plus-7 isn’t so bad on a team that has a plus-30 GF/GA ratio and scores a lot on the power play (61 PPGF in 218 chances, 20.0%, best in the WHL).

the numbers are good

but i think we had this same discussion last week. that league Rattie’s in just inflates the hell out of point totals. In his last year in the WHL, Brett Sonne put up 48 goals, 52 assists for 100 points in 62 games….now he’s in Peoria with 6/6/12 in 31 games.

Next in the Nate the Great mystery series: Nate the Great searches for a free-agent forward who doesn't blow dicks.

by NateTheGreat. on Jan 9, 2012 6:26 AM CST up reply actions

It's not the league that inflates point totals...

…at least not in Sonne’s case.

It’s because he was a 20-year-old playing on a powerhouse club (the WHL and Memorial Cup champions that season), playing against mostly 18-year-olds, and playing first-line minutes with two other big scorers on his line. Sonne’s linemates that year were then 19-YO Brandon Kozun (72 GP, 40-68-108, plus-50) and then 19-YO Joel Broda (67 GP, 43-34-87, plus-27)

In any case, you can’t look at Sonne’s totals as a 20-year-old in major junior, then compare them to what he’s getting in the AHL, without taking into consideration a multitude of factors… like the age (and experience) differential vs. most of the other players in the league; the linemates; the strength of the team as a whole.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and guess that if you played Sonne exclusively first-line minutes in Peoria with Hensick and Sterling, and if Sonne were two years more experienced than the majoroity of the players in the AHL, and if Peoria was the dominant club in the AHL, Sonne’d be doing better than 6-6-12 in 31 games (which in itself is not bad production for a guy getting third-line minutes with the occasional shift on the second line).

Sonne was scouted and drafted as what he is in the AHL — a third-line energy player with the ability to take the odd shift on a scoring line and not hurt you.

Rattie, by contrast, was projected by more than one scout and mock draft last summer as a potential mid-to-late first-round pick. He is a scorer with good speed and hockey sense, and some people think the Blues stole him at 32nd overall. He’s still 18 years old, and on pace for a 100-point season already, and Portland is a solid upper-middle-class club, sort of like the Blues of the Western League.

It’s probably too early to assert that this kind of scoring is to be the rule rather than the exception for Rattie, but it’s pretty significant that he’s doing it as an 18-YO, where Sonne’s major junior breakout year came at age 20.

And if I caught the implication correctly in your post, you’re not impressed with the quality of play in the Western League. As someone who’s seen a lot of live WHL games in his life, and has followed the league very closely since moving away from Portland, I’m gonna say you’re making a mistake in selling the ’Dub short.

There are more than a handful of pro scouts and GM’s who will tell you that the WHL is the best junior league in existence, bar none, and that it prepares the average player (and the exceptional one as well) for a pro career NHL better than either of the other two major junior leagues.

I'll buy that.

re: Sonne being the mustached kid on steroids in little league.

But re: your “and if I caught the implication correctly,” you didn’t. Sniffing out implications, once again, that aren’t there. Lots of good players have come out of the W. The real fraud league, I think, in young guys playing hockey, is college.

When you say...

…and I quote:

that league Rattie’s in just inflates the hell out of point totals.

…it’s not really a stretch for someone to think that you are not, as I said, impressed with the quality of the WHL.

Curious, I am, as to your reasons for feeling college hockey is, again in your words, a “fraud,” considering the large number of quality players that have come out of college programs.

I keep gravitating towards Yannick Veilleux...

He’s over a point per game, quietly having a pretty good season. And he’s a LW with decent size, which the Blues are in short supply of. I’d like to see the Blues draft another French-Canadian forward this summer, and put together their own French Connection line with DP57, Veilleux, and New Guy.

The NHL and the Blues haven’t had a legit French-Canadian offensive superstar since Pierre Turgeon, so I’m pulling for Frenchie and Veilleux here…

Max Gardiner just got a new teammate from Springfield.

Conor Girard, one of the goalies who started the season with the Jr. Blues, just got traded to Dubuque for goalie Gabe Antoni. Girard will likely be a backup, but he’s got some fine-ass Brian’s gear right now in goal.

Aren't Dubuque and Springfield in different leagues?

Dubuque in the Tier I USHL, and Springfield in the Tier II NAHL?

Not to say that this absolutely precludes trades between the two clubs, but I would think that’s unusual. It’s like an AHL club making a trade with an ECHL club.

10 of 15 Eastern Conference teams have less points than the Central Division’s 4th place Predators (48). Another, Florida, has the same amount of points.

ecstatic and scared at the same time. Who will he replace? We’re doing so good with this group right now (knocking wood until knuckles bleed) it’s hard to imagine where he fits.
Who’s contracts are up besides Arnott and Lang? Osh I know but I assume we’ll offer him money after what he’s proven this year.
Although, are Osh and Tank kind of the same type of player?

Apparently, Jori Lehtera is being traded as well...

… according to THIS Finnish website.

Here’s what Google translate says about the whole deal.

IS data, the center forward Jori gallery has a strong Avangard Omsk binoculars.

There are also some KHL clubs have been behind the talented playmaker. Omskia coach Raimo Summanen, who recently returned to the helm of the club. Siperialaisseuran other Finns have goalie Karri Rämö and defenseman Anssi Salmela. gallery represents just now Sibir Novosibirsk, whose dreams of a knockout place are only theoretical. Society aspiring around Christmas ranks Lynx defender Ville Koistinen, who ended up, however, Salavat Julajev Ufaan. Koistinen, revealed on Tuesday that appeared Veikka in Time, that Sibirin principal owner believes that the money putting his salary did not make sense, because the club the opportunity to play drop in games this spring, are non-existent. Sibir trade for the same reason the best their players. Gallery, but also at least a talented striker, Vladimir Tereshenko may change the landscape in January. gallery was in the autumn liqueur tension and fought KHL’s point of exchange top positions before injury. Sibir lost ground significantly, when the gallery was on the side of real action.

Apparently, “Lehtera” means “Gallery” in Finnish, and as near as I can tell, Avangard Omsk (which was Nikita Nikitin’s club back home in Mother Russa) has a Finnish coach who would be very interested in getting Lehtera there.

Both Lehtera and Tarasenko are in the last year of two-year Russian contracts, so it looks more like they may both be coming over. They seem to have had some pretty good chemistry working together in Novosibirsk, so maybe they can recapture that in Tha STL.
