While interest in purchasing St. Louis' historic Union Station continues, it got me thinking about the former rail giant's role as it relates to the St. Louis Blues and the city as a whole. Amtrak pulled out years ago and efforts to revive it as a mall have been unsuccessful so far. To me though, the biggest travesty has been a severe misuse of the enormous train shed which forms a bookend to a sports-centric Clark Street. This beautiful structure which once serviced upwards of 100,000 passengers a day now exists as a parking lot. And while many of us Blues fans make use of this lot a few times of year, I can't help but think a new space like the picture above (which I poorly faux-Photoshopped) would be a welcome addition for Blues fans and an obvious pre- and post-game gathering spot for Blues fans and Blues families. Tom Stillman...make this happen. P.S. A Christmasy-themed version is here and some more potentially outlandish ideas for Union Station are here.
