I like hockey. I like beers. I like cops (well, the ones that get my personal brand of humor and driving style, anyway). I like firefighters. I like Sunday Funday.
And I love any reason to go all Sunday Funday by drinking beer while watching cops play firefighters in a (mostly) friendly game of hockey.
So this Sunday, April 1st, is gonna be a blast.
Out at the Chesterfield Hardees Ice Plex, the St. Louis Bandits play at 1pm, which will be a fun game onto itself, but the Guns & Hoses game gets going at 3:30. Tickets are $10 for the unwashed masses or $50 for those who want the VIP treatment and free food and drink. I'll probably do the VIP and come out ahead on the deal. All the proceeds go to Backstoppers and Responders Rescue, which if you're some sort of half-wit and don't know, are organizations that exist for the sole purpose of helping first responders and their families when the worst things happen.
Wanna make it a date? Let's make a whole GT event out of this thing. A former GT writer, who shall remain nameless to protect his reputation, will be in this game and will likely be completely sauced by the time it's over. Come out to the thing and support and I'll tell you which guy it is.
Need more? There's a silent auction, a live auction and raffle items to win too. Plus, this is in conjunction with the Blues Alumni, so a bunch of your favorite Blues will be on premises. Play your cards right and maybe Bobby Plager will show you the Alumni bar behind the locker room.
You want to know why this is a great event to support? The guy we know sent this to us in his email: "Every good criminal organization has the cops on the payroll, and I'm eternally proud be associated with yours."
Imma be there. You?
