St. Louis Blues At Winnipeg Jets Morning Open Thread

Marianne Helm

It's been a few years since the Jets have seen the Blues, but after taking care of the Blackhawks, the Jets shouldn't be an issue.

Man, two games so far this seasons against the Blackhawks. Two wins. How long has it been since that's happened? If you count last season, not very long - but it is the first time that the Blues have won consecutive games in Chicago since the 2008-2009 season. It's also the first time that the Blues have dispatched the Blackhawks three games in a row since March 2004 through October of 2005.

There are a lot of positives going into tonight's game against the Winnipeg Jets. Vladimir Tarasenko had his goal scoring streak broken, but he still has four on the year. Alexander Steen and David Backes, with their two accidental goals last night (thanks, Duncan Keith!) lead the team with five each. Backes, if you'll remember, only had six all of last season. The Blues power play is second in the league, scoring at a 30.4% clip, and it took all of five seconds on their first power play for Jay Bouwmeester's shot to be deflected past Corey Crawford by Backes. These guys don't waste time.

The Winnipeg Jets, after a 2-0 start, have reverted to form. When your core has been rewarded with fat contracts, and when your core are basically the core of the Atlanta Thrashers, you're going to have that problem. Goaltender Ondrej Pavelec is going to be there for a loooooong time.

If you get a chance, head over to Arctic Ice Hockey and say hi, and check back later on today for some (if I get a chance to write them) Three Questions, an awesome preview from CrossCheckRaise, your GDT, and a RealBadRobot RealGoodRecap.

Happy game(s) day. Don't wear out your remote tonight.
