If you have to pick of one word to describe former Blues Doug Weight and Bill Guerin, "tenacity" would be a good one. If you had five words, they'd probably be "takes shit off no one." Either way you want to play it, those words characterize the Blues ethos, and so do Weight and Guerin.
A friendship spanning decades and three NHL teams (the Edmonton Oilers, the Blues, and the New York Islanders), they were heavy players. Obviously not literally so, but on the ice, getting out of their way was in your best interest. Weight, in two tenures with the Blues (he liked us so much he came back!) had 75 goals and 220 assists, while in the 2006-2007 season Weight had 28 goals and 17 assists. The 2006-2007 season was significantly better than the previous year, in which they had the worst record in the league. The fact that the Blues finished two games under .500 in their 40th anniversary season has a lot to do with Weight and Guerin.
Weight, in the grand tradition of every Blue that has been loved and left, won the Stanley Cup with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006 after being traded.
Weight and Guerin also both played on the gold medal winning American World Cup team as well as the 1998, 2002, and 2006 US Olympic teams, winning a silver medal in 2002.
They join former Blues Keith Tkachuk, Brett Hull, and senior VP/general manager Larry Pleau.
