The Kings had 47 shots on goal yesterday afternoon against the Detroit Red Wings, and only two went in. That's pretty indicative of the season that they've been having this year. Any other time, the Blues could look at that and go "oh, easy win!" but not now. Not this February, where they've gone 0-3-1 and seen themselves slide dangerously close to falling out of the playoff bubble for now.
How'd Kings captain Dustin Brown describe their loss?
"Probably our best 60 minutes in a long time,'' Brown said. ''Got to forget about the last 10 seconds.''
No, Dustin, you play a full 60 -- ten seconds can be the difference between a win or a loss, as you guys found out. If this is the mindset of the Kings and their captain, maybe the Blues can snap this streak. Of course, the Blues have also been incapable of playing a full 60 minutes too as of late, and I know that if those words ever came out of David Backes' mouth, I would be livid.
Will it be Jonathan Quick in net tonight against Jaroslav Halak, or will he finally get a break? Jonathan Bernier has played just one game this year; it might not kill the Kings to have him in. Who knows who the goalie is, but the Blues need to shoot on him and limit shots on their own net. Allowing 47 shots on goal isn't the safest way to win a hockey game, and the Blues can't afford to give away chances like Detroit did on Sunday.
This is your gameday thread. BYOB.
Let's go Blues.
