Sure, it's early on in the season, and too early to start choosing awards that won't be handed out until June. But it's still fun to make predictions, and the Blues' rookie comes up big.
You might've heard of this Vladimir Tarasenko guy. So far he has six goals and five assists, which is good for first among rookie goals and second behind Tampa Bay's Cory Conacher. Tarasenko is also a -2 so far on the season, but that has more to do with the Blues' recent slide than anything else.
NHL.com is making their early picks for the NHL Awards, and Tarasenko is currently beating Conacher out for the Calder. The highlight of the fawning piece is the fact that he's straight-up compared to Evgeni Malkin and the excitement of his rookie year. While I don't know if Tarasenko will be Geno v. 2.0, he does have that "it" factor when he's on the ice. After his explosive first game as a Blue, every time he comes anywhere near the puck, the fans expect some great play. So far they haven't been disappointed.
And, in case you forgot (which is forgivable), NHL.com reminds all of us that Barret Jackman has been the only member of the Blues to win the Calder trophy, beating out Henrik Zetterberg and Rick Nash in 2003.
