Sharks At Blues Morning Open Thread: Don't Shart The Blues

Dilip Vishwanat

See, either way, it's a play on words! "Short?" "Shart?" "Farty?" Anyone? Regardless, good morning and post away.

There's nothing more disheartening than starting the day -- and for some of you guys, the week -- with a terrible pun. I apologize. What I don't apologize for is actually feeling good about tonight's game. Sure, there were aspects of the Blues' game on this three-game road trip that I disliked, but there were still a lot of good things to build on, too.

If the Blues wanted a team to practice team-building exercises on, drawing the San Jose Sharks was a good call. After getting off to a 7-0 start this season, the Sharks followed the Blues lead and began a losing streak. Unlike the Blues, however, the Sharks have continued it. The last game that they won was on January 31st, and they've fallen to 7-4-3 on the season. Amazingly -- probably because the rest of the Pacific Division has struggled save for the Anaheim Ducks -- the Sharks are still in second place.

Last we saw San Jose, the Blues had knocked them out in five games of the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, thanks to a strong defense and good netminding from Brian Elliott. Tonight it should be a combination of the defense and Jaroslav Halak that get the job done.

This is your morning thread -- compare favorite coffee types and debate if Patrick Marleau is as terrible as Jeremy Roenick says he is. Check back later for some three questions, a Lighting the Lamp on Bay Area hockey, a preview, a game thread, and a recap. Busy day.
