Blackhawks At Blues GameDay Preview: Elliott's Back To Continue His Streak

Jonathan Daniel

The Blues' shutout streak came to an end Friday night, but Brian Elliott's personal shutout streak is still alive.

The last team to score against Brian Elliott, waaay back on April 4th, was the Chicago Blackhawks. Since then, Elliott has a 189:20 shutout streak running. Unfortunately the Blues' shutout streak ended Friday night in Columbus, but with Elliott playing the best hockey he's played all season, the Blues have more than a fair chance to wind up back in the win column.

The NHL scheduling Gods decided to make the Blackhawks and Red Wings the two teams that the Blues faced five times this season. The Blues have done well against the Central Division, taking three of five from Detroit, and three of four each from the Predators and the Blue Jackets. Right now the Blues are down two games to one in their series against the Hawks, and the Blues would love to see their fortunes change this afternoon.

The Blues won six games straight before their listless, and tired, loss against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday. Hopefully Saturday was their day of rest, because if not, they run the risk of losing two games in a row right when some of the teams outside of the playoffs are getting hot, especially the Dallas Stars. Every win still counts, and every loss can be a problem.

The Blues' defense hasn't exactly been the issue with their play of late, but the fact that they've scored four goals in the last four games is concerning. Their offense needs to step it up or else they're going to have to claw and fight all the way up to the last game of the season which, of course, is against these very Blackhawks. Well played, scheduling folks. Well played.
