So, since my work has been slow lately, I've been doing a lot of reading on the Blues and their roster for next year, namely, the line up of our forwards and where some of our rookies/new guys should/would slot in.
First couple of thoughts were "Don't break up CPR, if it ain't broke, don't fix it"... But I think that may be darn near impossible. Not saying that line will never be together, but it doesn't look like they will be a consistent line. My next thought was that I really like the way Schwartz played with Backes. It just seems like they get each other, or complement each other on the ice, or something. But do you really demote Oshie or Steen to 2nd line??
So, here would be my projected/ideal lines to start the season:
Schwartz - Backes - Steen
Oshie - Roy - Tarasenko
Paajarvi - Berglund - Stewart
Sobotka - LaPierre - Reaves/Cracknell
I really struggled just for this much. I hate putting Sobe on the 4th line, I really think he deserves 3rd line minutes, but if I do that, that puts Berglund and Paajarvi on the 4th line (since Hitch has made it clear that he wants them together). I know it was also said that they wanted Roy and Stewart to play together as well, but then that puts Tarasenko on the third line with Berglund and Paajarvi, and that sounds even worse.
And with those players, you still have Porter and Aucoin you could slot in the 4th line as well. When Jaskin and Rattie have earned their playing time with the Big Boys, where do you even put them?(and their both Right Wingers) Obviously that would probably more as an IR call-up situation, but if they prove themselves, who gets demoted? (That’s a question for another day, how does the demoting to the AHL work now with this new team?? I read somewhere that the Wolves won’t keep players on their roster that don't fit in, can they do that?? Where else would our players go?? ECHL? Missouri Mavericks(team affiliated with the Wolves) of the CHL?) I’m not even sure which players are on two-way contracts to be demoted, can’t be many of that top 12.
Just my thoughts, let me know what you think, or rip 'em to shreds and do 'em yourself, I don’t give a fuck.
