Recap: Blues Power Through Lightning, 4-2

Winter has come. Valar Morghulis, All men must die... at Ryan Miller's Hand... especially you Martin St. Louis... - Dilip Vishwanat

Tonight the St. Louis Blues took on the Tampa Bay Lightning. It was a hard fought battle and intense driven game resulting in a Blues win, 4-2. Its recap time, Blues fans!

First Period

The St. Louis Blues did not come out of the locker room for this period. I am not sure who did but it definitely wasn't the second place team in the Western Conference. If I had to pick a visual representation of the first period where the Blues were asleep and played into the hand of Tampa Bay's trap like defense? Hmmmm... Yeah I think this about covers it...

Second Period

The Blues would come out of the locker room with a 2-0 deficit. They came out a different team from the first period and they had a savior among them in wonder Swede, Patrik Berglund. The Foreign Relations line of Vladimir Tarasenko, Jaden Schwartz, and Bergie found their stride in the second period. Leading multiple rushes through the Tampa Defense. With 16:28 left in the period Jaden Schwartz would release a shot on Bolts tender Ben Bishop. Bergie would gain control of the rebound and calm and collectively take a snapshot top corner scoring over the 6 foot 7 goaltender's shoulder.

Towards the end of the periods 20 minutes Captain David Backes would get fed up with the play of defenseman Victor Hedman. Backes would take a minor penalty and head off the ice in a fit of rage. Down a man none other than newly crowned american hero, T.J. Oshie would make sure that Tampa Bay would benefit on the side of momentum. Osh would get a beautiful backhand pass from Alexander Steen on a shorthanded rush into the Tampa Bay zone. TJ Sochi would strike deking past the defense and getting the puck past Benny throwing a well executed backhand shot blocker side.

Third Period

The Blues would hold all of the power after a spectacular comeback effort in the second period. They would cement their comeback early in the third and seemingly kill any hope Tampa Bay Had. Ryan Miller was excellent in this period after some fumbles in the first 20 minutes of the game. He seemed invigorated by his new group of home team fans and made sure to give his team a chance to get the lead. At 3:47 the nose would find the goal with another backhander to put the team from St. Louis on top 3-2.

Vladimir Tarasenko would ensure the 4-2 win with an empty netter at 19:21.
