Wolves capture Midwest Division title on season's final night

ROSEMONT, IL --- The Chicago Wolves capped a remarkable final-week rally with a 6-0 victory over Milwaukee on Saturday night at Allstate Arena to claim the American Hockey League’s Midwest Division title.
Goaltender Jake Allen produced his seventh shutout to set the franchise’s single-season record and team scoring champion Ty Rattie posted two goals for the Wolves (45-21-5-5), who finished the regular season with 100 points and rallied past Grand Rapids (99 points) to capture the ninth division title in franchise history. The Griffins, who held the division lead for the previous 167 days, suffered a shootout loss at Lake Erie to open the door for the Wolves.
"It came down to the last day and we had to have some help," said Wolves head coach John Anderson. "God bless Lake Erie. The most important thing is we’re playing consistent and just expecting to win every game. Grand Rapids played great down the stretch too."
Right wing Sebastian Wännstrom, making his first appearance since March 23 due to injury, opened the scoring in the Amtrak Rivalry contest with a shorthanded goal at 3:52 of the second period. Keith Aucoin claimed the puck in the neutral zone and threaded it ahead to Wännstrom for a breakaway that concluded with him deking Milwaukee goaltender Scott Darling and nudging a forehand shot across the line.

(04-17-14) SPRINGFIELD, MA --- The American Hockey League announced today that Jake Allen of the Chicago Wolves has been voted the winner of the Aldege "Baz" Bastien Memorial Award as the AHL’s outstanding goaltender for the 2013-14 season.
A 23-year-old native of Fredericton, N.B., Allen represented the Wolves at the 2014 AHL All-Star Classic in St. John’s in February, and was named a First Team AHL All-Star last week. Rookie year going right for Rattie

(04-18-14) by ALYSSA DOMBROWSKI for NHL.com --- Peruse the leading statistics lists for the American Hockey League and you’ll see multiple mentions of 20-year-old forward Ty Rattie, whose 29 31 goals for the Chicago Wolves rank seventh fifth in the league, third among league rookies and at the top of Chicago’s roster in just his first professional season.
"Ty has always been that special guy that knows how to score goals," said Kevin McDonald, assistant general manager for the St. Louis Blues, the Wolves’ NHL affiliate. "It’s such a unique skill and he has so much creativity with the puck. There are times when he gets the puck in the offensive zone and it’s just like watching magic happen."
