Top 10 Goal Scorers for St. Louis in 2014-15

The St. Louis Blues are coming off their best offensive season, tying for sixth with 239 goals forced, since 2002-03 when they racked up an impressive 253 goals – good for fourth best in the league. They have the opportunity to extraordinarily exceed their production in the 2014-15 season.

Back in 2002-03 they reputed a dominant slew of characters whom Blues fans still proudly wear the jerseys. Including the likes of Al MacInnis, Keith Tkachuk, Doug Weight, Chris Pronger, and you can’t forget the leading scorer in the late Pavol Demitra – who is the last Blue to reach the 90 point mark – headed by an extremely affluent coach, Joel Quenneville.

The squad put together for the 2014-15 campaign rivals those likes and have the potential to piece together a historic season and reach the 250-goal plateau.

St. Louis needs to buckle down, but with a name such as Paul Stastny added to a crew of young and talented players like Vladimir Tarasenko and Jaden Schwartz, they have impending probability the top ten scorers will put up 200+ goals alone.

Here is the list of the Blues top 10 goal scorers for the 2014-15 campaign.

*Goal predictions are based on a full 82-game season.

10th: Alex Pietrangelo – 10 Goals

Petro is known for assists, not afraid to deliberately bank a shot off the boards as a pass, but he’ll get a few more on net this year and wind up with 10.

9th: Magnus Paajarvi – 11 Goals

PJ’s – It will catch on, I promise – first season as a Blue saw him suiting up in 55 games while tallying 6. He’ll have a more focused role in 2014-15 and see his numbers nearly double.

8th: Jori Lehtera – 12 Goals

The 26-year-old Lehtera is hard to predict considering he’s never played an NHL game. He’s done well in recent years playing in the Kontinental Hockey League – which is the top league in Europe – putting up an average 25 goals-per-game in NHL standards.

7th: Patrik Berglund – 15 Goals

Bergs put up 22 back in 2010-11 and has been chasing the rabbit since. The former first-rounder needs to produce but will tack on 15 this season.

6th: T.J. Oshie – 20 Goals

Osh is another Blue that had a career year in goals scored and continues to make goalies look absolutely terrified in shootouts. He’ll still break the 20-goal mark, dropping one from last year.

5th: Jaden Schwartz – 22 Goals

Schwartz is coming off a spectacular year, putting up 25 and finishing third in Blues scoring, reminding everyone why he was drafted 14th overall in 2010. He’ll keep up the strong pace and snag 22 on the year.

4th: Paul Stastny – 24 Goals

Stast – another that will catch on – put up 25 for Colorado last season before the blockbuster deal that came July, 1st sending him to his native St. Louis. He’ll drop a goal this season but will finish the year strong and tie his third best year, landing him fourth with 24.

3rd: Vladimir Tarasenko – 27 Goals

Senks put up 21 goals in only 64 games last year. Should he stay healthy, he’ll continue besting his own scoring totals for the next couple years.

2nd: David Backes – 31 Goals

Backes has finished in the top two in goal scoring for St. Louis in four out of the past six seasons and I don’t see him falling out of the second spot this year. He's good for another 31 on the year.

1st: Alexander Steen – 34 Goals

Steener is coming off his best season ever in pro hockey – while missing 14 games. With a knack for finding the back of the net last year, I see him leading the Blues offense again and pushing a new career best in goals.
