Three and a half years ago, goaltender Jason Bacashihua was worth a young defenseman recently picked in the first round. Today, he's apparently worth a bag of pucks and some athletic tape.
Bacashihua, who has spent the season in Peoria, was traded today to Colorado for future considerations, according to the Blues Web site. On Colorado's Web site, they claim the trade was for a conditional seventh round draft pick next June. He's already been assigned to Lake Erie, the Avalanche affiliate in the AHL.
When he couldn't beat out Curtis Sanford for playing time a year ago or youngster Hannu Toivonen this year, the writing seemed to be on the wall for the former Dallas first round draft pick. Hopefully the GT Prospect Department will help explain how this opens the logjam for the developing goaltenders in the organization.
