Blues Draft Teemu Eronen in 2011 NHL Entry Draft Seventh Round

(Don't forget, folks... the Draft Day GDT below is open all day long for comments, criticism, and whatnot.)

With the last selection (192nd overall) in the 2011 Entry Draft, the Blues went back to Europe to select a young veteran of the Finnish Elite League, the SM-Liiga, in defenseman Teemu Eronen of Jarmo Kekalainen's Jokerit Helsinki club.

"Elite Prospects.com," a Swedish website that cover all European leagues pretty well, describes Eronen as an offensive defenseman who is good on the power play, and not so good in the physical game. At 5'11, 180 pounds, physical play isn't really expected from the Vantää native, but an offensive game coupled with his 1990 birthdate (November) might lead to placement in Peoria for the 2011-12 season, and that might be a precursor to bringing fellow Finnish blueliner (and 2010 draftee) Jani Hakanpää over when the Finnish season concludes.

At 1:18 of the following video, you can see the play develop in which Eronen (#21 White) scores the game-tying goal on a nice wrist shot from the point. Jokerit ends up losing to HIFK Hameenlinna 3-2 in the shootout:
