Recap: Blues Play 60 Minutes Of Dumb

New, comments

The 2006 Blues started their season in appropriate fashion as the 2013 Blues decided to stay home tonight. It was ugly, it was brutal, and it was just pure dumb. Lets recap to cope with the pain... I promise I will be quick.

Let's face it the St. Louis Blues played like shit tonight. From puck drop to the final horn there was no sync, no jump in the skates and hell, there was just no mind meld out there on the ice, unlike the San Jose Sharks. The Sharks owned this game. They fed off of the nasty hit in the first and stone walled the Blues at every turn.

Maxim Lapierre sure has some 'splaining to do.

The first period started off quiet and slow. The crowd seemed nonexistent and almost at peace with the eerie calm; if a fog had rolled in I wouldn't have been surprised. They say it exists, the calm before the storm, and after tonight I believe it. At 5:22 Lapierre ran Dan Boyle into the boards. Boyle did not get off the ice of his own volition. The hit was nasty and an unnecessary, dumb move on Lapierre's part. From there the game snowballed into a never ending tailspin of penalties, overemotional play and multiple unanswered goals.

Testosterone was palpable.

Hits came often, and they came hard. No one was out to play nice after Boyle's stretcher ride off the ice and the dynamic of the game had completely changed before it had even begun. San Jose's first two came on the power play. The first came at 9:37 of the period by Logan Couture. The second wasn't far behind at 10:25 Joe Pavelski snuck the puck past Jaroslav Halak making it 2-0.

The goals kept on coming and resulted in a switch in netminders for the blues who called on Brian Elliott to start of the the third period after going into the locker room down 4-0. Elliott let one in off of a shot from Joe Thornton, making the score 5-0 at 5:06 of the third period.

The Blues eventually got on the board with a nifty little goal by Vladimir Tarasenko at 7:23

and a Roman Polak Goal at 12:28.

The game ended with a score of 6-2 and a bad taste in a lot of blues fans' mouths.

#RoyWatch: Stands at 6 (+1 Tonight with an assist on Senko's goal)

There you have it Blues fans. Short and sweet now pass me a drink.
