"Game Time" PROSPECT SUNDAY for October 27, 2013

So far this season, when Jake "The Snake" Allen has been in goal for the Chicago Wolves, they have earned standings points 70% of the time. When he's not, they earn NO points 100% of the time. Just one more reason why selling the farm team might have made financial sense, but may be a BIG mistake from a player development point of view.

When he's in, they win... or at least get the gimmick point. Photo by -

PAW PRINTS: Despite giving up four goals on 31 shots on Thursday night in Iowa (and taking a slashing penalty), Jake Allen's save percentage of 93.1% is still good for 13th in the AHL ... Only one goaltender ahead of Allen on the save percentage leaderboard, Norfolk's John Gibson (95.3%), has played more minutes than Allen ... Gibson has played 374:40 to Allen's 305:49 ... Allen's 305:49 of playing time ranks twelfth among AHL netminders, and his GAA of 2.35 is 24th overall ... Dmitrij Jaskin has been scratched for the Wolves' last five games since leaving the ice with an apparent injury on Oct. 13 ... RW Cody Beach and D Cade Fairchild still have yet to see game action this season, and LW Yannick Veilleux has only dressed for two of the Wolves' eight games to date ... Conversely, Shields and Ty Rattie are the only Blues' prospects to have dressed for every Wolves' game so far this season.

Icemen sneak past K-Wings

KALAMAZOO, MI --- Despite receiving plenty of energy from 5,576 enthusiastic fans, the Kalamazoo Wings third period comeback bid fell short, as the K-Wings dropped their home opener and 10th Annual Orange Ice Game 2-1 against the Evansville IceMen. The crowd of 5,576 was the largest opening night crowd in the K-Wings’ 40-year history.

WING TIPS: Friday night's clash with Evansville was only the second game played by the K-Wings so far in the 2013-14 ECHL season ... Both games were against Evansville, who were the Blues' ECHL affiliate last season ... Jordan Binnington made 24 saves on 26 shots in just over 59 minutes of playing time, good for a 2.03 GAA and 92.3 save percentage ... The Blues have had Ty Conklin in Kalamazoo for the last week, working with Binnington and Kalamazoo's other goalie, 12-year pro veteran Joel Martin.
