Blues At Senators Morning Open Thread: Do Nothing Senators

New, comment

The Ottawa Senators haven't been able to recapture the chemistry that sent them to the playoffs last season.

The Senators, if the Detroit Red Wings weren't having a terrible season, would be making Daniel Alfredsson look like a genius. Depending on who you believe, he was either low-balled by the Sens' owner, Eugene Melnyk or he just wanted a chance to win the Stanley Cup elsewhere because he didn't feel like it'd happen in Ottawa.

With the season Craig Anderson is having, he wouldn't've won the Cup in Canada's capital. The Sens are 13-15-6 and neither of their goalies are looking sharp. Anderson gave up two goals on four shots in the Sens' 5-2 loss to the Kings. Those other three goals were scored on Robin Lehner, who let those in on 22 shots. There doesn't seem like there's an easy decision to be made.

Brian Elliott beat the Sens the last time he returned to Ottawa, and will be trying to beat them again. Is this a case of Ken Hitchcock starting the backup against teams the Blues are "supposed to beat?" Who knows, but if they start to look at it that way, that there are teams that "they should beat," then they run the risk of letting off of the gas. They did that Saturday night, and had another clunker of a first period.

This is your morning open thread. While you're waiting on a CCR specialty preview, head on over to the nice guys at Silver Seven and let them know you dislike Detroit too.
